I just bought a new mossberg 500 with the 18.5" barrel. I want to get some accesories and extras for it, and i was just wondering what you guys have done to yours so i can get some ideas for mine. And if theres any tips on how to make it funtion better or smoother, if possible. Heres a couple pics of it.Oh and if anyone can tell me why the foregrip looks different than other 500's.

Thats the standard Mossberg field forend, if the gun was bought new like that Im curious to know why its on there. As for mods, they are an individual thing. Some like this, others like that. You'll just have to decide what you want to try and see if you like it. The reciever is drilled and tapped for a rail to mount optics and there are tons of aftermarket accessories out there or them.

As for accessories, the joy of a "tactical" shotgun is you can put on what you like, how you like. Like supernova said, try some stuff out. I've finally built my zombie shotgun how I like it but it did take a few rounds of trial and error to really configure it how I like.

FYI for the most part, if you want any sort of practicality, a sling and light (and even a side saddle or shell carrier of some sort) are considered by most to be requirements. Check out the picture thread for ideas!

Yeah I'm going to pick up a tacstar side saddle for sure and I will look into getting a light to. I did buy the gun new with that forend from wholesale sports yesterday for 247.99.

Yeah it came with the pistol grip to. I can't decide which one to leave on cuz the pistol grip looks badass but I like being able to shoulder and aim with the other one.heres a pic of it with the pistol grip.

I bought the tacstar side saddle but that forend won't go all the way back to fully open the chamber with it installed. Does that mean I need the ribbed looking forend.

Looks are important but so is hitting the target.

My pref is to at least have a folding or sliding stock.

I base this on not wanting to use my face as a recoil pad or worse, my pants falling down:

That looks exactly like my 535, the forearm has the op rods pinned in place. Im not too sure, (does any one know) if u can put the tube forearm in place of that one so u can have different forearms with stock sets like the ATI and others.

I thought just the bullet style forends were 1 piece? That would suck if the field forend is as well but might explain the $250 price tag. Brownells sells the metal slide tube with action bars, plus every other single mossberg part. As for using the pistol grip, youtube is full of "what not to do" videos. With a little practice and sticking with 2 3/4" shells you can use the bead and shoot quite well with one. Its hard on the trigger hand but full power 3" mags can be aimed and fired this way too. Do you ever see guys holding handguns right infront of their face while firing? Then why in hell do people do it with a 12 ga. shotgun is well beyond my reasoning and logic. Extend the arms a bit and brace yourself properly and you can use the bead with a PGO shotgun. With some practice you can get very good with it too. Happy shooting!

well i took it apart and there is no metal tube in the forend that i can screw out its all plastic with the two slide bars.so i guess that means i would need to buy a tube slide assembly.

well here is what i have done to it so far, next step is to get a sling for it then im not to sure what to do after that. Thanks for all the input and help.

On my 500 I have a foreward pistol grip from tacstar. I have there rear pistol grip as well. Ati deluxe heat shield with ghost ring sights and tacstars 6 shot side saddle. 18.5" barrel. Very fun gun. I even shoot skeet with it. I also have a ati 6 position pistol grip stock with drop tube spacer and 5 shot side saddle but its usually on my 535ats and it sports a anti jam front fore arm. Very fun guns. I have barrel mountable lights as well for when the coyotes are at the back porch

I got the exact same one from the same place at around the same time. My first shotgun, and I'm loving it.. Just found out that I will need to get the old style slide tube assembly if I wanted to replace the forearm. I saw on brownell's different lengths for the assemblies, 6-3/4" and 7-3/4". Any of you guys know which one I should get?

I believe the longer one as I recall, I would have to check my notes buried somewhere, see what others have to say.
