Hey I'm looking to pick-up my first shotgun. I have a non-restricted firearm's license & I really like the black tactical look on a few of them. Ive found this

What do you guy's think about it? The Barrel length is 18.5" so I believe its non-restricted but I am not 100%. Can anyone help me out with this?
Ive heard great things about Mossberg but have never owned one before. Can you suggest any other tactical inspired non-restricted shotgun? Thanks for the help! Also the price they have listed good deal or no? Thanks once again hope to hear back you. :)

IMO put that money towards a 590 instead, its the true 'tactical' Mossberg platform.

and yes, it is non-restricted.
a factory barrel can be any length - even 8.5", as long as the overall length of the shotgun is over 660mm (26").

couple other shotguns to consider are the 8.5" Grizzly from CanAm, or perhaps an 870 Police (though itll run you a bit more money).

Native411, the mossberg 500 is an excellent shotgun. I own a maverick 88, which is a cheaper blued steel version of the 500 and I love it. Theyre tough, reliable and cheap. My only concern with mossberg's colapsible stock is it looks identical to the ATI one I bought for mine, which I found puts your eye way to high to use the bead sight, and the pistol grip on it is very small. The picture of the stock on their website looks exactly the same as mine. I just stick to the plain mossberg pistol grip that came with it, but if I had to choose a full length stock I'd go with a speedfeed or standard oem style stock. Just my 2 cents, but the $480 pricetag seems a bit steep to me, as I paid $230 for the maverick.

^exactly.
if youre going to pay ~$500 for a Mossberg, get a 590 - not a glorified 500.

same goes for the $710 Remington 870 Tactical - the one with the Knoxx stock - which costs more than an 870P (a much better built gun).

Yeah I was looking at the price myself and I was thinking of just sticking around the gun range a bit more and keeping my ear's open. Ive seen a few go in and out but dont know of anyone selling at the moment. I am still in the middle and in between a few different model's. It will probably end up either being a remington or a mossberg.

Native411, I think the best thing to do would be try them out. Go to the gunstore and ask to see each, look it over, shoulder it, rack the action, work the safety etc. Find which one you like best based on comfort, how easy all the controls are to work and whatever interests or conerns you have. I think I tried every tactical shotgun at Barton's 3 or 4 times each before deciding on the Supernova Tactical. Which one you choose depends on which one you like best. You cant go wrong with a 500 or 870, both are excellent shotguns, but they do have their differences, namely safety and action release are in different positions. Go with what works for you and let us know how it turns out.
