mossberg 500A, Pulling the trigger is not relasing the slide.

I picked up an older 500A at a gun show recently. worked fine for a while, but suddenly the slide has not been releasing when the trigger is pulled. The action bar release is not going down when the trigger is pulled, and i'm not sure what is causing it, as it all seems everything is in the right place. Any idea what could be causing it.

So, after looking at several diagrams and pictures, i discovered that the Action lock hammer spring had fallen off the action lock lever. I just moved it back into place and its all working fine now.

I'd be curious to wonder why or how it got to be that way?
Be the pitts to be out hunting and have it go about going back to
this unhelpful position?

That spring has a hook that goes over the action bar, you may want to check to make sure it's still strong and in the right shape.

I've had some issues with it before, so i'm thinking that the guy i bought it from had disassembled the trigger group and put it together poorly. Should it happen again i'll buy a new spring kit. I'm not too worried as it won't brake the gun totally, just make me have to push the action release after each shot, just an inconvenience.
