As dumb as this question may sound, I will ask it anyways so be gentle :D. I stopped into the local Wal Mart and picked up some Winchester 12 guage Heavy Game Loads 2 3/4 inch 3 1/4 DR. EQ. 1 1/8 OZ. 4 Shot ammo. Anyone know what 3 1/4 DR. EQ. means ? and will this ammo be compatible with a Mossberg 590 12 guage ? Thanks... Ammo is being used for targets and range use mostly.

Jesus, dont shoot any till someone tells u if its ok. I think some could make your gun blow up in your hands. Its only supposed to accept one type of slugs I heard. Mines chambered for 2 1/4 and 3 inch shells.

What type of target use? if you're taliking skeet or trap you would be better off with # 71/2 or 8 pellet size these would work with steel plates too. some clubs want you to use the smaller pellets on steel to avoid dents which then cause splashback.

#4's though are great for grouse & rabbits.:D

then all you can shot out of your shotgun is 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells nothing eles the 3 1/4 DR. EQ. go's way back to when they used black pwder like some one eles said here you need to the length of the shell

Canadian tire sells a box of 100 federal clay target shot shells for $20.00 u can also kill small birds with it.

"...some clubs want you to use the smaller pellets on steel..." Smaller than No. 2 shot tends to bounce back as far as the spectators. I've been hit as far back as 30 yards from the firing line. No damage at all, but I wouldn't have wanted it in my eye.
officer487, your shotgun can use any 12 ga ammo up to 3" with no fuss. I wouldn't want to use Heavy Game Loads for targets though. It hurts the shoulder after 25 rounds of skeet or trap.
