I'm new to shotguns. I am thinking about picking up a 590 because I like the larger tube magazine. I'd like to use the gun to shoot clay birds with my buddies in the bush but it's primary roll will be for wild animal defence.

Can the barrel be modified to except a screw in choke? Should I pick up a 500 and add a larger cap mag tube (is that even possible?).

I like the ergonomics and placement of controls of the Mossberg over the 870 so suggesting a Remmington isn't what I'm looking for.

Thanks in advance.

Their website shows they are all fixed Cylinder Bore - no choke. Threading the barrel for chokes is about $50-75 or so, plus cost of chokes.

The 500s can have extensions added unless you modify the barrel and tube. If facing a clay target or wild animal and you need more then 5 shots for invest in a large knife lol. Cyl choke is ideal for close defense work not so good for clays but withj the right loads you will be amazed how well you can do will cylinder barrels
