Want a good quality affordable tactical shotgun. Seriously looking at this for next payday from SFRC

I have not spent a great deal of time behind a shotgun. Would I be better served with maybe a Remington like this.

I do like the adjustable stock on the Mossberg and the safety placement just not sure on the long term reliability.

Please advise guys.

All I know is I now have my pal, finally, and my first purchase will definitely be a 590. From all the research I have done the 870/590 debate is more or less the shotgun version on the Ford/Chevy debate. People like one or the other and all have their own reasons for why they favour one brand.

Neither is a bad buy I think but for me having a gun that is milspec tough and made a little more robustly is a plus because I am hard on things generally. That and mossbergs seem to be a better value for your dollar, I guess I will found out if I made the right decision in a couple of months after I get it and break it in.

Get both :)

You will be happy with either...

I personally prefer the location of the slide release on the mossy, people will debate the location of the safeties on both...the 870 is slightly easier to disassemble.

If you do get the 590 check out the one with ghost ring sights.

I have had both. I now only have the mossberg 590A1. I always found the rem saftey placement to be awkward, not so with the mossberg. I would go with the mossberg, I dont think you will be disapointed.

Good points, the Mossberg has better release and safety positions (in my opinion) but if you put a stock with a pistol grip, like a Speedfeed III on it the safety becomes very hard to use.
