Hello everyone. I'm seriously considering buying a Mossberg 590A1. I can't decide between the 14" model or the 18.5" model. I'm going to use the gun strictly for fun i.e range use or for a SHTF scenario.
Any pros and cons from people who have actually used both?

Get both! Seriously…all depends on how handy you want it and what mag capacity suits your needs. If you opt for the 18.5" get a mag extension and pass on the speed feed stock.

If you want the ultimate in portability and pointability, nothing beats the 14", 5+1. Tons of stocks available for the Mossy, my 14" measures about 32" in OAL with an aftermarket stock that I like better than the original. Great shotguns, can't really go wrong no matter what you choose.

If its gonna be your only shotgun, go with bigger capacity. Who doesn't love the shortys too though!?!
I personally went with both (20" + 14")

To be honest, my first Mossy was an 18.5" 590a1 and I found it surprisingly compact for the barrel length. Obviously the 14" I have now in place of it doesn't compare for the purpose of compactness, portability, etc...

Id get the 14 inch. The capacity is the same in a smaller package. 5+1

I got a 20 inch 590 and you cant beat it for capacity, nothing Remington offers has the same capacity. 8+1 is sick. Now you can get KSG and UTAS ext but i hate the looks of those. Ill stick with the 590 i have which im sure is more reliable and tuffer!

I have a 20" and 14", sold my 18". The extended magazine tube of plus 1 or 2 for the 18" is $100 roughly. That is pricey. Once I had the 18" it made me want the 14", I doubt fellow 14" owners would say they desire an 18" after owning the shorty. The 20" is good for matches which is what I built mine up for. I'd go with a 14" for zombies, the speed feed stocks do suck on them and I didn't see a benefit to the one that came with mine.

I guess I'm the exception. My first Mossberg was a 590A1 18.5" GRS. When I got a 14" bead sight (5 yrs ago) I sold the 18.5". I missed the "full-sized" battle SG so bought a 590A1 20" GRS.
The 14" collected dust as I preferred the 20" even though it was bigger and heavier. If I could find a 18.5" 590A1 with a plain bead sight it would replace the 20" and be my one and only SG.
