Mossberg, 590A1 Compact Cruiser AOW 10 12 gauge 713.26USD 5 only

That's not true.

Once a handgun, always a handgun.

This is a strange universe our gun laws.
Example Wichita and Remington bolt action handguns can not be action cannabalized for a rifle with the expectation of convertion non restricted status dispite full stock and full length rifle barrel.

But shotguns example Ithaca Stakeout with a mere barrel change and/or full length stock versus it's pistol grip apparently conversion to non restricted from restricted is supposedly quite possible.

A fly in the ointment is H&R M4 survival rifle. Once upon a time just pinning the sliding butt stock in longest format and with verification now can become non restricted.
Apparently this is impossible right now with the CFC.

I don't know where the Marlin Camp Carbines follow, but is suspect one can no longer get a longer barrel fitted by gunsmith and try to attempt to convert it non restricted status.

My oh my....our laws....

AOW does not mean handgun, it’s a shotgun and it’s non Restricted under the law, however the RCMP doesn’t only enforce laws, they enforce opinions

First, The term ''AOW'' has no legal meaning in Canada. it's a US thing.

Second , a shotgun can be restricted or not restricted, depending on the OAL length.

OAL doesn't apply to a manual action that came like that from the factory. Its not made less than 660mm by means of a folding and telescoping stock, it's not prohib by name, its not a handgun, so its non restricted.

That's how I read it too. What would make it restricted?

https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/page-20.html#h-117002

restricted firearm means

(a) a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,

(b) a firearm that

(i) is not a prohibited firearm,

(ii) has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and

(iii) is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,

(c) a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or

(d) a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm; (arme à feu à autorisation restreinte)

Note the "and" in section b(ii)...has to be less than 470mm AND semi-auto.

OAL means nothing on a factory configuration there's a handful of shotguns that are under 26" and non restricted,

the 26" restricts semis and modification of pumps/breaks that left the factory over 26"

Those ones are imported with "pistol" classification from the manufacturer, since handguns have less restrictions about barrel length and overall length in the US as long as they are not shouldered (see braced pistols for example). So when it is imported into Canada, it is automatically restricted based on manufacturer description, and cannot be reverted to NR since it would be registered as a "handgun".

I'd be thrilled to watch someone from the firearms lab fire a full tube through that one handed :)

Actually, I'd like to see everyone in the lab do so.

Not saying they can't...just that I'd very much like to see them do so.

Hey IRG could you get the barrel, mag tube, mag spring, pump/forend and sell them as a kit? Would save us the hassle of having to get one verified and de-registered if we choose to throw a shoulder stock on it.

OAL doesn't matter for manual action people! (unless telescoping or folding) The Mare's Legs that are restricted were brought in as 'handguns' by a careless importer.

The bummer is these are brought in as pistols as well, so restricted forever. :(
