Mossberg 590A1 or Remington 870 Express for 3 gun?

That one is very good. Slightly lighter but great for all purpose. You'll need to either wear a glove on your left hand or get a heatshield depending on how you reload. I have about $1,400 total spent on my 590A1 with all the parts and work, now they're coming with more so less cost.

Heatshield for this model because it is a lighter barrel than the A1 thicker barrel type? Or you believe you'd need a heat shield for either?
Looking for a gun that may be used for 3 Gun shooting at some point when the world returns to normal.

Heat shields only add weight. All but a few 3 gun stages will not require enough rounds to get the gun very hot.

Kinda figured that myself but good to hear from someone more in the know than myself.
Just pulled the trigger and ordered the 590 Tactical Mlok (non A1).
Will see it in a week and already thinking what I need to add.
May need a:
Front sling mount
Pic rail if non-of the ones I have fit.
Choke tubes for down the road. Are there after market Accu-chokes?
Bigger safety button (may look for a 3d print file for my son to print me)
Can you add a bayonet mount like the A1 versions?
What am I missing?

Sling/ sling swivel is necessary in my opinion.

Pic rail if you're going to run an optic.

I don't do interchangeable chokes, my shotguns are short range blasters an the fixed choke has never let me down.

I would buy a proper aluminum safety, the 3d printer material is brittle and the tang safety is stiff.

S and J hardware might have something for a bayonet attachment. Personally I see no need for one.

Side saddle for sure, any model really. I'm partial to the velcro shot cards, very easy to install, they work, and they're cheap.

What do you need a bayonet lug for? I’ve never seen that stage fo three gun.

1. Cause I may have to buy that part to get a sling mount anyway.
2. Cause my buddy has one.
3. Just for fun
4. Looks cool
5. Zombie apocalypse
Sorry...that's the best I could come up with.

The mods I did to my 590A1 were:
-oversize thumb safety
-fiber optic front sight
-smoothed out the trigger
-Knoxx Compstock/forend
-velcro side saddle
-barrel threaded for 870 chokes

I'd advise getting a heatshield if you ever plan to shoot lots of rounds ie a shotgun only match or a shotgun training course. Sourcing a 590A1 one is difficult so I wear gloves but the 590 model is much easier. Worth it to me, plus the added looking cool factor.
