Yesterday, I was at my local gun store looking at tactical shotguns. When they pulled the 590A1 off the rack, I noticed that the barrel lug and front sight were attached with epoxy. The epoxy was not sealed, stained, painted, or finished in any way. It was porous and a greyish beige color. The shotgun had just been shipped and arrived the day before I was there. The owner and I speculated that the quality control must be slipping up with the huge demand for rifles and shotguns. The questions I'd like answered are:
1. Is epoxy the general standard for attaching the front sight and barrel lug?
2. If so, what finish / sealant is applied after?
3. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this, or issues like it?
So if any fellow nutz have any info, please help satisfy my curiosity.
