So, I purchased a new Mossberg 590A1 (Model 51660) today and noticed the forend “wobbles”. It appears to even rub the barrel slightly if turned enough. As an 870 guy, I’m completely new to Mossberg’s. Is this typical?

Apart from that, I love the gun! Particularly the location of the safety & slide release.

Thanks in advance.

I have three 590A1's. It's normal. They do have more ''play'' in the forend than the 870.

I've considered buying a 500/590 for a long time, but I just can't get past that twisty clackety fore end.

Its designed that way to shake out mud and dirt if your in a battle and it gets dropped or for whatever reason finds debris.

Thank you very much, gents. As I said, as a long time 870 user, this seemed peculiar to me, but if it’s inherent in the design, so be it.

I loved mine more after having it threaded for chokes.
I plan on getting mine threaded for chokes. :)

I read that somewhere.

I like the feature where it doesn't pile drive shells into the bridge between the magazine and receiver. I think they call it reliability or something.

What he said.
Plus Jerry Miculek reps them so it’s a must have.

lol

Write me a cheque, give me free guns and ammo. I'll say what ever you want me to say.

The wobbliness is normal. The action will smooth out over time.

This has been talked about over and over. Which is "better"??? Fan boy this, fan boy that. Blah, blah, blah, Military, blah, blah, blah,Police, blah, blah, blah, chicken hawk.

These guns are on par with each other. Both are excellent. Choose one and be thankful you had a choice.

Well I don't have an exhaustive list of all the shotguns that do, but the 870 express would be at the top of that list.

Interesting.

I had an 870 Express that would constantly stovepipe and jam on me. I could not get it resolved and finally returned it to the store where I purchased it from. Due to this, I have no interest in Express’s any longer. That said my Wingmaster and Police shotguns have been excellent!

Holy ####, a guy on the internet that actually gets it.

Always depends of what you're used too.. Had a mossberg 500 ans the action was stiff, the wingmasters I have are slick as butter so for me I do prefer the 870's, even the express action I bought in 2009 was awesome..

There is Remington 31, Remington 870 wingmaster, Ithaca 37 and Winchester model 12

Then some where below is the rest on various lower levels
Not saying they are bad just they fall as they do
Cheers
