“They Don’t Make it Like They Used to”…
NEW Mossberg Retrograde Shotguns
Mossberg has introduced a NEW 500 Persuader and 590A1 through what they are calling a Retrograde Shotgun Series. The Connecticut-based firearms manufacturer has launched the line to commemorate the company’s 100th anniversary. This new series is unveiling just these 2 shotguns at the moment and are giving them a nostalgic once-over with wood furniture and other throwback features. Boasting the same utility as the pump-action shotguns we have all come to know from Mossberg, but with that vintage firearm curb appeal.
In 2019 as Mossberg celebrates their centennial, the release of these two replicas will epitomize their “two most iconic police and military pump-action shotguns, built to today’s standards, but with the retro look and feel of a walnut stock and matching corncob forend.” The formal Press Release statement from Mossberg further expounding on these new models can be read below:
“After over 50 years in production, over 12 million sold and the only pump-action shotgun to pass the U.S. military’s MIL-SPEC tests, the Mossberg 500 platform has proven to be one of the most versatile and reliable shotgun designs available. Both the 500 Persuader Retrograde and 590A1 Retrograde are designed for smooth, dependable operation with the combination of non-binding twin action bars; dual extractors; a positive steel-to-steel lock-up; anti-jam elevator; anodized aluminum receiver for added durability; and universally-recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety.”
The Mossberg 590A1 is the most expensive of the two new shotguns, but it is also the most trustworthy and feature-rich. A short, but concise specification listing for this newly announced shotgun can be read below as presented by Mossberg:
•20″ Heavy Wall, Parkerized Barrel
•Heatshield
•Painted Ramp Blade Front Sight
•8+1 Capacity Cleanout Mag Tube
•Bayonet Lug
•Adjustable Ghost Ring Rear Sight
•Walnut Stock & Corncob Forend
•MSRP $902
With the MSRP pushing $900 it might be a bit too high for some consumers, but it does offer a lot to the shooter. Between the heat shield, robust iron sights, bayonet lug, and the classical wood furniture there is a lot in this package
