Happy friday fellows :)

Finally i got a 590A1 retro! Been a year i tried to get one but every time they come back in stock, they disappeared so fast. I love the look, with heatshield and wood furniture. Ofc, when you get a shotgun with a bayonet lug,you need a bayonet otherwise ther shotgun doesnt shoot lol. Here we have a M7 bayonet, fit very securely. I read that the M9 bayo doesnt fit well because the distance between the ring and the rear pommel is a little bit longer and the bayonet doesnt mount securely. What you say guys with M9 bayo? The U.S requirement specified that a military shotgun must accept a M7 bayonet. Only thing, i had to tweak the lefthand cartridge stop, was bent in an hair too much and sometime, didnt release the shell from the mag but now is perferct. So Mossberg please improve QC! In all, i am perfectly satisfied, the wood is very well finished and just make shotgun looking awewsome. Now i wait after a surplus nylon sling for the last touch.

Get the leather M1 garand sling would be perfect for this. I have the exact one, it was my first Mossberg since I'm always the Remmy guy.

x3 on a leather sling with brass. I found the military sling to be needlessly complicated, so I opted for a really good carry strap for my 590A1 Retrograde. https://www.huntercompany.com/products/carrying-strap-1?variant=30357133623377

The leather does just set it off. I have the wider 1 1/4" strap. I have also run mini shells through it with a rubber adapter https://www.firearmsoutletcanada.com/opsol-mini-clip-for-mini-shells-mossberg-500-590-a1.html. I can't remember how many mini slugs it holds, but it seems near bottomless when punishing downrange with it. Lol.

Edit: I have one criticism of the shotgun, and it's a mild one. Loading this thing with any amount of speed is like ramming your fingers in a box of razor blades! Okay, so I exaggerate, I never cut myself but the magtube opening is sharp as are the edges of the loading port. I have some "Alumablack" on order and once its in I'll be de-honing this beast. Something that should have been dealt with at the factory imho. Aside from that, great shotgun.

Congrats OP on your new retrograde! I just found an 18.5”. I found the 20” barrelled A1 model just too heavy (I have a regular A1 with the 20” barrel).

My new retro is not the A1 version, so no ghost ring sights, heavy barrel, or metal trigger guard. I don’t mind those because of the weight savings and for me, the shorter barrel means a bit easier handling. This will be my fourth Mossberg scattergun.

Oh, and I saved over $200 off buying at a vendor when I found an unfired one on another forum. And that sealed the deal. I’ll be using a black paracord tactical sling with this one.

By the way OP, I love the bayo! I have the Ontario bayo on my A1.

OP, I replaced the original plastic flat safety switch with an aluminum raised unit. Here it is completed…

Very easy install. But there are a couple of things you need to do make the changeover flawless. That original screw has a “one way” slot. Mossberg didn’t want people to change their design, so they used a fastener that is “supposed” to only be tightened. There’s an easy way around this with masking tape. Also, you need to make sure the safety is on and the action open (racked back).

Other then those few things, this is a very easy replacement for the factory flat plastic switch.

I went with a Delta Wave Safety on mine, much better than the stock safety for me. I also went with the 590 in 18.5 instead of the 590a1, just a personal preference as I use it in tac shotgun matches etc and the A1 is a heavy girl lol. I do prefer the look of the 590a1, that is a badass looking shotty no doubt about it, especially with a bayo! IMG_0594.jpg

Finally got my sling and swivels :) The sling is typical US nylon sling nos and the swivels are QD 1.25 inch from Grovtec. I went 590A1 route so i have the metal trigger group and safety. Its true that the 590A1 9 shots is a bit more front heavy because of the thicker barrel but i can live with very well. So for now my shotgun is how i wanted to be :D
