I prefer the lighter weight of a Tactical 500. All are built to last.
I've tried a full spread of 12GA shotties and I currently have the 20" magpul 590A1 and I'm keeping it for as long as possible. Best shooting 12GA I have ever owned. I find the safety to be way better placement than the 870 as well. Thumb operated and right in your face. Easy to check from even a cheek weld position. This model is fairly heavy and long, being the beefiest they make, with the thick A1 barrel and a 9 round capacity. Love it through and through. 20" barrel probably isnt the best house sweeper, we have a 14" Canuck for easier handling/better truck unit etc. See that you're in AB. Great thread CGN I also had many 870 over the years and it was always my go to shotgun. I have a very nice old wingmaster with blond police wood on it that I finally settled on. Always wondered about those Mossbergs. Well my new 18.5 590a1 arrived last week. Well it was solid and and different then the 870s for sure. After about being half way into my first box of shells, the light came on. The ergonomics were perfect for me. I had to shorten the stock and it was very easy. Also if you dont know the trick about your butt pad. Put them in the freezer over night before you sand them down. Im a changes man moving forward now. Thank you 590. Does anyone have or know where I can find a magpul stock for it. New or used. I cant seem to find one Thanks

I had a similar experience. Always was an 870 guy and still enjoy them, but the ergonomics and controls placement on the 590’s are SO much better for me. Much more intuitive!
I’ve got a 500 that I’ve been thinking about redoing. It’s going to be ugly as hell.
It’s a police trade in with a pretty rough looking exterior and the same wood stocks as the new retro models. I assume my stocks are birch, very light coloured. Picked up a camo vent rib barrel that I’m thinking of cutting down to 18” or so and putting a Wad Wizard choke tube on it.

Been at home watching tons of YouTube clips on these over the last week. And after reading the comments here (which I trust as more reliable) I just ordered mine from Tenda. It's a 590a1 Special Tactical, 20in. barrel, model 51668. Yeah!
I'll be looking for some Magpul furniture for it eventually. It was pretty spendy but I think that's what tax refund cheques are for.

I've got nothing but good things to say about tenda. I've bought a number of things from them. They are usually the best priced place in Canada. This only problem with them is most of their bad reviews are people who are pissed at their slow communication if there is an issue or a question.
I guess if you want the best price, be ready for slow customer service. I find they ship fast enough, I bought a gun two weeks ago and they had it on the truck within 3 days. In my hands 4 days after that.
