Looking to find someone who can shorty (within obvious legal limits) my Mossberg 590m. The plan is to dump the factory stock for a raptor grip and do a shorter barrel/fore-end within the limits of good taste (and obviously the law). Anyone know a shop/gunsmith that does Mossberg shotguns?

Pretty much any gunsmith/gun shop can shorten a shotgun barrel ; but I would forget about the raptor grip as they are close to useless unless you are looking for concealability .

Yep, any gunsmith “could” do it but it wouldn’t be legal. Cannot alter or shorten a barrel on a manual action to less than 18”. You need to have a barrel “manufactured” to 14”. Pretty much need to either get a 14” 590 and use the front end off of it, or find one of the 14” kits that used to be available.

Pretty sure a gunsmith with a manufacturer license can "re-manufacture" a shotgun barrel to the appropriate length. Dlask does not do Mossbergs otherwise I would have them do it.

So far as a shockwave, if I could get a magazine fed shockwave in Canada that's what I would have bought. It is essentially going to be a backpacking/camp gun, but being mag-fed I can carry it around unloaded and load/unload much easier to keep the fuds happy. But I might also try a 20 round mag for the luls.

It would probably still fit. I think the 14" bbl kit is almost $600 though, better off buying a full shockwave and swapping parts so I have 2 guns now... That's not a bad idea I guess. But if theres a gunsmith out there that can do a 10" bbl out of what I have and sort the pump that might not be the worst option either. Heck, just finding a raptor grip has been a search (unsuccessful so far)

Ummm, no. Must be manufactured to that length from the get go in order to be less than 18”. All the DLASK 870 barrels are brand new and made to that length.

As per the CCC, Sect 84:

prohibited firearm means

(a) a handgun that

(i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or

(ii) is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge,

but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,

(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

(c) an automatic firearm, whether or not it has been altered to discharge only one projectile with one pressure of the trigger, or

(d) any firearm that is prescribed to be a prohibited firearm; (arme à feu prohibée)

They might be a little harder to find now , but 14inch barrel kits ,they use to be about $300-400 mark.
Dlask had talked about bringing in some Mossberg AOWs, they had very short barrels, unknown if they're still working on that or not.
I was going say the 14inch is a good balance between length and mag capacity, but you're box mag feed , so that's a non issue. Lol

Unfortunately that’s not how it works, you can’t cut a barrel for a manual action shorter than 18” and say it was manufactured. No matter what kind of license your smith has, it has to be made from scratch. It’s stupid I know, so are the majority of our firearms laws.

This is likely your best bet, some heat and the mag tube will unscrew as far as I understand. At least then you end up with two guns, and the raptor grip in the real.

So from what I am hearing is that the only realistic option is to dump a new manufactured 14" barrel on it and call it a day. Lame. I am guessing nobody makes mossberg shotgun barrels?

My boss at work is a newbie with firearms, and he’s also looking for a 590m shockwave with the raptor grip.
I didn’t realize they were not available or so hard to come by.

OK, so before this gets all internet-y. This is basically a meme gun, the "Meth-berg." I have "real" shotguns for "real" shotgun jobs. This is just a goof. Yes, I am wasting my money. So with that out of the way, what are my options?

14" bbl kit apparently will not fit; Why?

Gunsmith can not "re-manufacture" an already existing barrel: I am more than capable of looking into that on my own (because: fill in the blank for yourself), but would appreciate some informed guidance (if such a thing exists online)

Do I seriously have to I-Run-Guns up a 590m shockwave?

Should I just dump a raptor grip on the MF and call it a day?

Biggest question though: WHY can I not find anyone in a free country with a mini 590m? Is it such a stupid idea that nobody ever had the damage to build one? Or is there a reason it is not possible?

If I have to junk this whole idea my next thought is: Can I get a gunsmith to modify a Mossberg 930 to take 590m magazines (obviously the magazine can not be modified)?

One of your options, if not stuck on Mossberg, is to find one of the old Grizzly mag fed 12 gauges the Canada Ammo used to sell. They were a direct copy of the 870, but came in various barrel lengths from 18” right down to an 8” if I’m not mistaken. They come up on the EE if you’re willing to wait a little.

You need a 14” barrel to stay above the legal OAL on a 870 or clone like the Grizzly.
