Mossberg 715t crap or not?

Have been looking for a cheap AR/tactical option in .22 to see if I want to invest in a high quality one. As the title asks, is the mosberg 715t (at around $300) worth it? I know I could do 10/22 build if I could find one cheap, or spend between $500-800 on a S&W or Umarex...but if im gonna plink I wanna do it cheap until I build my .223 AR build.

I would also be interested in other cheap options that I might have missed

wholesale sports has the 10/22 for $250 in stock right now. as to the 715? its OK, a pain in the arse to clean, i just clean mine out with brakekleen and re oil. the Mags are fairly poor quality so expect jams.

I have a couple and love 'em. I clean and maintain them after each and every time i shoot them, and so far, no FTF's or FTE's(knock on wood). I've probably put close to 1500rds through my one, and no issues at all.
I was warned by a few people not to buy them because they jam all the time 'n stuff, but i couldn't resist the cool factor for the price..
They work for me mate.
 
I have a flat top and a carry handle model all mall ninja'd up. Look AWsome but when I want to plink I grab the 10/22 heavy barrel
 
From the things I've heard and seen I would never recommend one! Thats just my opinion. They feel cheap, not the highest of quality thats forsure. My buddy got rid of his because it would jam constantly, no matter what ammo was ran through it. There is a reason every gun store has them sitting around. At cabela's the guy even warned me not to buy one lol. Wait around for a SR22 or Pietta Puma PPS-50 Wildcat.
 
new mags you say ya I bought one months ago and never take it out anymore cause well its a piece of...... always FTE or FTF no matter what ammo I used tried polishing up the feed ramp and internal parts still cheap junk so I just take my 10/22 maybe ill try a new mag did u get the 10 round or another 25 round mag?
 
I bought a 715 for my wife with a few spare mags and put a cheap red dot sight on it. My wife hasn't enjoyed shooting in the past but both her and my niece have a lot of fun with it. We have been to the range three times an put about 700 rounds through it. So far for cleaning it I have just pulled through the barrel and wiped out the chamber. I haven't disassembled it yet.

Pros
- the price
- gun runs fine, no jams
- non restricted
- lots of rail space for adding tacticool accessories

Cons
- changing mags takes two hands, one to operate the lever and one to pull out the mag
- the mag that came with it can only be loaded to 20 rounds and won't feed the last round
- if you want it to replicate an AR for heap training the controls are different
 
One of my work buddies likes the 715 so much he now has three. One for him, one for the kid and one for his brother. I say they seem OK. As long as you don't go in expecting the world of a cheap Mossberg 22, it'll do you fine.
 
One of my shooting buddies has one. To me, it feels cheap and has annoying functional stuff like the way the bolt hold-open works. I also don't like the faux-fullsize-mags with the little stick of a mag on the top half. When we were sighting it in, we ran out of windage (couldn't even get it zeroed properly). He seems to like it as a fun plinker, but I've never buy one for myself after playing with his.

It just went up $65, but still a solid platform as it is all metal and quality features. A 10/22 with similar features will cost you at least as much. The only advantage to a 10/22 is lots of aftermarket support.
 
Think im gonna pick one up to dink around with, I know my wife and son will have fun with it at least...It'fill the gap until my build is done.

Now the hard choice....223 or 9mm....oh hell, get uppers for both! Its only money....

Ill post some pics when it shows up, hopefully next week. If you get the 715, message me and I'll tell you what I did to mine to get it running better.
