hi all, looking to go out and purchase a mossberg 715t tomorrow, anyone own this rifle have any complaints, or good things to say about it? also should i go with the flat top or handled version, or is there any benefit to one over the other? any assistance or experience would be appreciated, thank you

I wouldn't bother. My friend ended up just giving me his free of charge the other week because he couldn't deal with all the hassle anymore. Im going to take it down and give it a good cleaning and lubricating, and bring it to the range the next time I go. I have some CCI Mini mags which seem to be the only things it will cycle, but it stopped cycling his and that's when he gave up. Hopefully I have more luck after the cleaning.

I got a used one on E.E., at a fair price, and have no problems with it, even with bulk ammo.
If you're going to scope it, I'd get the flat top.
Some may have minor reliability issues, but it's not like your life is going to depend on it.
If you're looking for an AR looking rifle, that's NR, it's your gun.

thanks trebor2880 i went with my gut and bought one, my daughter is 8 and my wife enjoys shooting as well, the looks of this thing will have my daughters eyes wide xmas morning and she loves my marlin 795, i find with this stuff the best info you can get is from someone who owns one, otherwise u just get the ford chevy conversation that goes on forever, these things whether its a ruger 1022, a marlin 795, all the semi auto 22 stuff, they are all similar, all have pros all have cons, and if they are mechanical which obviously they all are, they ALL are subject to malfunctions of some kind, most of the time though with ALL its either ammo or dirty... if you want a ton of add ons buy a ruger {be prepared to pay a premium for that feature} the marlin 795 is inexpensive, a tack driver, bolt hold open is nice and now reliable hi cap mags available, and the savage i believe is still made in canada... i say whatever you buy take care of it and so long as you dont get a lemon, {which incidently even happens with a ferrari} you should be fine, i want to have fun with one of all..

I have the 702, which is basically a 715 without all the plastic. 250 rounds through it first time out zero problems. They are a major pain to take apart..I'm sure all the extra plastic bits on the 715 makes it even more aggravating. If you do get one be VERY careful during assembly, the recoil spring is a major hassle to get back in, and in my case bent in two spots.

thank you i will be cautious of that, my daughter who turned 9 yesterday is going to freak out xmas morning when she opens it, i am going to clean it and run 50 rds through it this week before i wrap it up.

Honestly it was my first rifle i purchased it in august at first it was a pain with FTE's and FTL, the load assisters for the 25 round mag bend so you might want to come up with a solution for that! Otherwise cleaning takes a bit but in no way difficult to dissasemble, i've put 2000+ rounds and its working better than the day i bought it!

i did consider buying the pink one for her, but i know she will love the look of the 715t so i bought that, plus i think i might have to play with it too, of course just teaching and such, i would never ever steal her xmas present for my own benefit......lol
