I don't even have my new 835 yet, but I wanted to know what sort of modifications or upgrades are available.
So far, I've found that you can get a lighter trigger spring (Mcarbo?), a smooth or rifled slug barrel (although I haven't found any available for actual purchase), and of course, a recoil pad (limbsaver).
Anyone know of anything else? I've heard that the 835 is cross-compatible with parts from other mossbergs, but I have no clue which ones.

Even 835 parts Arnnt all interchangeable. Broke a wooden for grip in hunting season. Had a hell of a time getting one to replace it. Ended up customizing one from a diffrent 835.

oh for real? that's brutal! Hopefully I don't run into that problem for a long while!

I sold mine because of the lack of parts available for interchange.

Oh. What did you end up going with instead?

I have 3 835. They pattern great with the over size barrels. I had an accident and got snow in my barrel. Blew her up good. I only had one shot gun at the time. I had to pay up for a barrel, not so common. 250?? I think. If I had to do it over again 870 or A Nova.

Any idea where to get a barrel? Seems like they are sold out everywhere. Would love a rifled slug barrel.

Rifle slug barrel come up on the ee from time to time. You can not shoot slugs threw a 835 shot barrel. Prob says right on the side. Not for use with slugs!

I was a little leery of the Canuck brand, as I had never heard of them. How are they?
I think the next shotgun i'll get in an O/U of some sort.

They are ok from my bit of messing with them. Cheaper than the the full featured brand name ones. They go bang. I had to tweak the long barrel tang with a file to lock in and be easily removed. It was worth it to save $3-$4 hundred for me. They are no Benelli fir sure.

The owner of hi call sold me my barrel when I blew it up. As I was leaving Dave pulled out a dime. It fit in the end of the barrel. Told me it had an open choke I can shoot slugs! I should buy a ammo can of slugs because they were on sale. Then I showed him where it says not for use with slugs on the barrel. With a little googling it says you can shoot slugs out of it. But expect to buy a new gun if and when you get out of the hospital.

My father has a Mossberg 535 which has quite a lot of interchangeability. I understand that the 835 is a bit of a unique beast.

Having said that, Mossberg make parts for it. Just there isn't so much aftermarket I think.

Scrummy

I live near Mission, so maybe i'll pop in for a visit to see what they can do for me.

Yeah, i may just have to contact Mossberg to get a precise list of parts.

You can get rifled slug barrel designed for 835. There was at one time a "security"(18.5" open choke?) barrel available from Mossberg, but I understand they may be discontinued. Barrels from 5xx series are not usable.
I was also able to mount the barrel from my 590A1 18.5" (The barrel from 20" 590A1 won't fit) on my 835, but obviously could only use 12 gauge 3" shells.
