Mossberg 930 mag tube getting "wavy" due to piston?

I've noticed that the mag tube under where the piston moved and operates has gotten a little uneven. It isn't smooth as it was, but is now kinda bumpy or wavey, I suspect it's due to the friction in that area, can anyone confrim whether this is normal or effects the operation of the gun?

Was shooting Win Universals and it failed to extract every other round. I suspect either the Universals are too light, or the bump is slowing things down. Maybe both.

Completely normal I would imagine :)

What cheap stuff do you guys put thru your 930's. Is there a cheapie load thats a little faster/better than the walmart winchester universal stuff, but around the same price?

In terms of cheap, I think the Walmart stuff is pretty hard to beat.

It's abit weaksauce at longer distances, but can get the job done.

I have since switched to Federal #7.5 field and range and it has a bit more "mustard" to put 'em down.

Well I'm mainly concerned with cycling the action. The WinUnis seem a little slow for my 930. Are you saying the Federal target cheapies are a little faster/better?

I wouldn't be concerned with the cycling issue.

If your 930 is working on the WinUni's, you shouldn't have a problem.

#4 shot will have larger pellets than the #7.5 but the #7.5 will have more pellets (if I understand this numbering system correctly :))

It's a bit of a trade off since the 930 is a smoothbore but I find the #7.5 works best for me.

This season I may try #4 again to see if I have the same accuracy, but in all honesty, we really should be running chokes!

Alot of shotgun stages I shoot use both slug and shot so I haven't felt the need to get a 930 barrel with chokes (if one exists), for me atleast, the stages and range I shoot at, #7.5 seems a nice balance.

Thats my issue: the winunis arent cycling ery well at all. They were originally, but now they dont.

So, i'm wondering if the federals have a little more oomph.

Break in period.

I have used the Win shells and also had issues FTE and FTF non stop.

I fully recommend the Federal 2-3/4 #7.5 or #8, 1-1/8 ounce shells. After the switch they worked great the 930.

The 1 ounce shot you will have issues with in Win or Fed. I think there just isn't enough oopmh to properly cycle the shells or something.

I am speaking from personal experience.

Has there been any changes in springs, repair, etc. since it stopped cycling light loads again?

Have you tried running a box of magnums through it?.

Every so often there is a 930 that won't do light loads, don't know why

I reload slugs and buck, and have put some game/duck loads through the gun as well. All function perfectly. This issue seems to only pertain to the win univarals. Next time I'm out, I'll buy the Federals, and make sure to get the 1 1/8thoz loads. I'll keep you guys in the loop!

Are you shootif 1 ounce or 1-1/4 ounce?

I have nothing but issues with 1 ounce.

Run my 930 on Winny Super Target 1-1/8 8 shot. Chews through them no issues. The only ammo it doesn't like is the federal. Get light primer strikes occasionally.

From owning it for a while and using it just for skeet I have noticed it requires cleaning and lubing every 250 rounds to operate flawlessly. I pushed the 500 interval a few weeks back and had a few FTE's.

Other than that she is a wonderful skeet gun.

I'll have to double check as I have not touched my boxes of Win Uni's in over two years (back of the ammo cabinet) I'll take a look tonight but it is whatever Wallymart sells for cheaps.

TACTICAL111 brings up a good point though, I clean and lube everything once or twice a season and I clean fanatically. I attend 2-4 3 gun events during the warm season if that matters...
