Mossberg 930 questions?

Anyone have issues using Challenger target loads in a Mossberg 930. I've been having problems with them ejecting completely. They are the handicap loads so they aren't real light. I was shooting the Federal Target Loads 1oz and they worked flawlessly. With the Challengers I have quite a few issues. I cleaned the gun well including the piston and rings so I don't think that's the issue.

I've had problems with challenger in semi autos before. They were 20ga rather than 12ga, but to me they almost seemed to have a waxy residue on them that i've never really noticed in other brands and my 20ga extractor keeps slipping off the rim when it trys to eject them. if i alternate 1 challenger, one something else like federal, winchester, etc, they will eject just fine, but 2 challengers in a row and it keeps slipping off. I've pretty much relegated them to pump/break action only

I've got the 930 with the rifled barrel and it works great, I usually shoot 125-150 slugs in an outing and never had an issue, it has worked flawlessly.

I took the 930 out today to give it a good test run/break in. Put a few Sabot slugs through the rifled barrel. No issues, super accurate. Fired a few Rifled slugs and some 3" magnum buckshot shells through the 28" smooth barrel and again it worked beautifully. Loaded up the Challenger target loads and started having some failure to eject again. Not all of them but had 2-3 FTE in about 12 rounds.
I bought some RIO target loads 1 1/8 oz 3dr 1200FPS. They have higher brass and are higher velocity than the Challengers so I'm hopeful that they will work nicely. Anyone have any experience with this type of round?

Well the Rio target loads didn’t work well. Had several FTE and a couple of FTF. I ordered the Or3gun combo and will see if these aftermarket parts help with the light loads.[/QUOTE

1 1/8 oz 3 dram loads are not light. A modern auto loader that will not cycle them is either faulty or poorly designed. Having to order aftermarket parts to make a new shotgun work properly is unfortunate.

Well this 930 is finally working the way it should. I added the OR3GUN Competition Marine Tube Spacer, and recoil spring plunger. Loaded it up with some Federal Target Loads (1 1/8oz, 3dr, #7.5) and it worked flawlessly. Test fired 20 shells and not a single failure. I tried rapid firing and it didn't skip a beat!!

I have the Pro Sporting series 930 and it has been flawless, has approx 3000 rounds of 7/8oz, 1oz and 1 1/8 7.5 or 8 shot. It took maybe 50 rounds to break the spring in and all was good. Very fast and has the nice shims for the stock as well as ported barrels and briley chokes For sale if you are interested
