Mossberg 930 Tactical

Thanks for that link.

I might look into a thinner pad or cutting that nut in half. Honestly, I've found the stock LOP isn't that much of a problem on the 930 since you don't have to pump it. My 870 has a 12.5" LOP and it needs it.

I can t say the same for myself so if can find a way to shave off that extra tenth from the timer all the better.

First off I always wear a tac vest on all my runs which cuts down instantly on my LOP.

On low ready starts I dont like catching the comb of the stock on the vest as I swing the butt up to the shoulder pad.
This usually happens when I use a different class shotgun. So if I can keep all my LOPs @12.5 I will hopefully not need to use a lame excuse on why my run time sucked.
A shorted LOP also helps me get around corners .. esp. right turns since Im right handed.
Besides my arms are short.

Post Review on the Mossberg 930 RoadBlocker

Ok

Now that I have burned up about 6 boxes on this firearm I can pass on to you my impressions.

In-spite of reading some poor reviews b4 hand, the 930 did not give me any FTE or FTF issues with Winchester AA 1 1/8oz. 7.5 shot ammo.

Recoil is manageable but thats never an issue when one has had extreme shoulder bruise from a 10g bolt action shotgun.

Loading the gun fast will again take me some time to adjust to since I have no idea yet how to load it fast without binding my glove in the gate.

I had noticed that this shotgun DOES NOT have an over ride button that can lockout the tube if I need to change the loadout. My Hatsan MP-A and the Benelli M4 each have this feature. You will need this feature if your shotgun run has a stage mid way requiring to fire a slug or double 00 then back to target loads.

Not that this matters to me but I dont like the cocking lever. In fact it sucks balls. Too small. It doesnt matter to me cause Im changing it to an oversize ASAP.

The 930 can ghost load just like the Benelli can. The Hatsan MP-A cannot due its double gate on the bottom. Its nice to know that option is there but I wouldnt count on it if your life was ever on the line.

Now everyones probably wondering if that large hunk of recoil suppressor actual does anything. YES it does. It looks giant and cool. SO no it doesnt really do much of anything. But hey it gets a good chuckle at the range so that alone is worth it.

Anyhow Ive gotten more addon parts and I will post the changes as soon as I get a chance to install them.

Thanxs!

yes 12.2 inch LOP Urbinno stock aka the hk style for those of us that remmber that far back.

Too bad. I'm not a fan of pistol grips on the Mossbergs with the top mounted safety.

Don't wear a glove. I don't because I don't like the loss of dexterity when loading shells, and as you said, they can get caught.

No need for that. Just load the required round into the tube and run the charging handle. This method is only an issue if the gun is completely full. In that case, run the bolt, load the tube, run the bolt and you're good to go.

I have just ordered my new Mossberg 930 SP Home Security from Wholesale Sports. $499 + taxes and shipping. The young lady on the other end of the line was very polite and helpful. Will submit a range report ASAP. Cannot hardly wait....feel like Charlie Brown going to the mailbox looking for a valentine from the Little Red Haired Girl.... :)

I like gloves - I never shoot w/o them. They are one size smaller hence breaks into my hand like a second skin.

I find that every shotgun has subtle differences on loading depending on how the gate on the bottom is.

I FAST reload all my shotguns with gloves on and I dont bind my thumb in the gate anymore cuz I used to the gate feed. Im not used to the gate feed on the 930 --- need probably 1000-1500rnds to get FAST with it.

The button makes for less steps ie: faster loadout. Push button rack feed push gate fire. Done while eyes are downrange.

"FAST" reload?

Regardless, if you're going to wear gloves no matter what and the lack of mag-tube lockout is a serious issue, maybe the 930 isn't the best choice for you.

The 930 is what it is. We work within the limitations of our equipment. Sometimes that means doing things differently to compensate.

FAST = As in reload as quickly & smoothly dont take ur time cause a timer is running.

I have busted up/burnt my fingers enough times shooting rifles/shotguns fast that I appreciate the extra protection of a thin pair of gloves.

Like I said I will be practicing reloading/firing the 930, getting the muscle memory down just like Ive done with the other different semi autos that I own. Shotguns IMO are the most difficult to master as far as the reloading sequence while coordinating rhythm under stress since every make has their own unique set of variables..

The 930 has its limits and if I run into a course that will put me into a disadvantage, I will simply unpack another shotgun to compensate for that event.

Had an excellent day at the range today with my "new" SPX. Bought it from a fellow CGN (Wholsale Sports did not have the one I ordered, even though their website indicated one in stock)....but I digress....
Was told this particular gun did NOT like light loads...so I brought along plenty of strong stuff to assist in break in. The thing worked perfectly! After burning through a box of #4 shot, ran some 7 1/2 through and nary a hiccup. Even had a young lad of 12-13 have a turn at it. The recoil moved him a fair bit, and the gun kept chugging along.
A very happy CGN this evening, with his Mossberg 930 SPX

Congrats! Pics?!

Picked up a 930 Tactical at S.F.R.C. today (Sponsor at top of page) for $599.95. I think they have one other 930 but I don't believe it has the heat shield. My first semi. I do like the 590A1 I have. Time will tell which gets more work.
