I started a thread a bit ago... on the mossberg 835..

now im thinking maybe its time to own my first autoloader, instead of another pump

Whats the difference between the mossberg 935 and the 930... besides price? Thx

935 shoots 3" and 3.5" cartridges. The 930 shoots 2.75" and 3" cartridges. Think of it this way the 935 fills the semi auto roll of the 835 pump the 930 fills the semi auto roll of the 500 pump. I just ordered a 930 I have heard nothing but good words about this gun.

The 935 is basically set up for the heavier hunting loads for birds and geese. There are plenty of reports of the 935 not cycling lighter loads, and only functioning with hunting loads. That said if this is your only use for the shotgun then with a diet of the right shells you will be happy.

The 930 is basically the all around version of the gun, and is set up to handle everything from 2 3/4 target loads to 3 inch magnums or slugs as well.

I just recently purchased one but in my first trip to the range I have put over 160 rounds through it most of which were the cheapest target loads I could get. I also put some high velocity steel BB through it without any issues. I have yet to try any 3 inch shells through it but so far it has run without a single malfunction with just a light oiling after cleaning from the factory.

Here is my review of the 930.

Epps had 1 of the same 2 barrel combo's(26 inch waterfowl, and 24 inch rifled slug) I bought in stock last time I looked for $500!!!!!!! Otherwise for just under $500 you can just get the bird barrel.

For that price I would not hesitate, and the 935 is quite a bit more!

I also have the 935 and it is necessary to spend a few extra minutes cleaning it after each hunt. Otherwise it is a terrific gun. I also purchased the rifled sabot barrel for it to and with this barrel it will cylce the 2/34" sabots just fine.

Maintenance a pain in the butt on an Autoloader? Like ive mentioned... Ive never owned a autoloading shotgun. Just pumps

Not at all.

It really is not much harder to clean, but might require cleaning more often because as carbon and crap build up in the gas system it could affect function more.

That said 165 rounds last week and not a hiccup seems pretty good to me. I haven't cleaned it yet and plan on putting 100 more rounds through her this weekend. Assuming there is no issue that is over 250 rounds without any malfunctions and is pretty damn good for me.

Basically comes apart like any other shotgun except instead of sliding off the slide you remove the barrel then all the gas system components. They all basically slide off of the mag tube and just have to be wipe down and lightly oiled, then slide them back on in the same order. Trigger mechanism is very similar to the 500, and is held on by 2 pins, but this doesn't have to be cleaned as regularly as the gas system.

I love my 930. Whether slug barrel or smoothbore, it is a great choice.

I am not a lover of recoil, so when I say the recoil is good you can believe it. I have a 535 and it thumps like a mule but the 930 is a solid 308 level recoil. Makes goose hunting fun.

I have not had any bad experiences with the gun and it feeds everything I have showed through it. Mostly 2 3/4 loads.
