mossberg ATR Nighttrain ?

I too looked at this rifle for a "Starter" kit, but was advised by multiple members to avoid it, and no-one suggested that I take the risk.

That's all the skuttlebut I have heard on it.
 
All I have is my personal experience with my rifle. It is at least third hand and seems to be going fairly well. The action is neither the smoothest or the tightest I have handled, the trigger seemed long in travel and a little gritty, and the bipod us an unusual (to me) design.

That said I have around 800-900 rounds through mine without issue, it appears to be consistently capable of 1" or less at 100 when I do my job right. I was able to tinker with the trigger group and improve the function, and the light stock makes it easy to know when you screw up your grip.

Overall I am happy with it, I had to start somewhere and this one worked for me.

haha alright guys, so one guy likes it and two dont, its not looking good for this guy. maybe ill save my pennies for a nice savage in .223 to add to my collection next :)

You have to keep in mind that the one good review comes from a guy who owns one , and the other 2 I doubt they've even shot one, as I haven't alas have heard of rumors about them not being the best quality rifle . All in all I would take such comments with a grain of salt when making the decision and suggest you have a look at one up close before (if possible) scrapping the idea.

You are correct AFAIK. Perhaps someone could find the thread? lol

Long story short some guys bolt blew apart due to cheap construction and he made a thread calling it the Night Train Wreck complete with pictures of shoddy workmanship.
 
yeah, its hard to not listen to others opinions when you hear stories about them blowing the bolt apart, lol. figured id ask, i wanted a cheap rifle and this deal seemed too good to be true. ill cheap out on some things but not on something that makes a big boom and has the potential to kill me.

Whether or not all the bolts break apart or not, accuracy reports are pretty mediocre. I still believe the best low budget starter rifle is the Stevens 200. Once you get used to shooting you can upgrade what you like on it easily and inexpensively. $300 for the bear rifle and out of box accuracy is very good for a factory rifle.
 
thats not too bad, i expected an exploded bolt with chunks of shrapnel, lol. although its nice how they have one smooth end fitting onto a splined end. i bet thats a universal part between several models. man i hope my mossberg plinster doesnt do that, i know the .22 is a hard hitting round but i dont wanna see that bad boy get blown apart, lol.

maybe ill just save a little more money and buy a bit of a better quality rifle. i figure it would be a nice cheap little gun to have to add to my collection in the future, but i guess you get what you pay for. if it was my first rifle id consider it but id rather not downgrade from my remy

fatory scopes, bi pods, looks like adjustable triggers, and from what ive found they sell for like 500 bucks.

Looked at them and shot just one. The one I tried shot OK, just over 1.25" with factory super-x ammo. Trigger was a bit gritty with some creep.

It's a cheaply made little rifle dressed up with cheap "tactical" accessories to appeal to the budget-minded (cheap!) "tactical" buyer.

Don't expect it to be especially accurate or robust. It's cheap, it shoots, it's black. If that's what you're looking for then it's the rifle for you.
