Hi
Have mossberg 500 that came with a pistol grip and just picked up a used regular mossberg stock today. Realized that normal mossberg stock uses a really long bolt where as the pistol grip used a short bolt.
Anyone know where i can get a bolt for the stock? Or maybe know the length and thread so i can pick one up from a hardware store if they're available?

Thanks

Did you end up finding a replacement bolt?

I am in the same situation.

I found some info on another site that suggested using a hex bolt from home depot. The bolt size they recommended was 5/16 bolt 5.5" long with 1/2 head. I picked this up today and appears to be the right size/thread, but was a 1/2" too short, I'm going to pick up a 6" long one tomorrow and test that. I think depending on the stock you are using the lengths are different, mine is from a Mossberg 500 field I believe.

yes i did. jut ended up doing some measuring its a 5/16"x18 bolt 5.5" long. Got a grade 5 bolt at home depot for less than $2. perfect length for the 590 stock.

Just an update in case anyone else runs into this same situation.

So After initially picking up a 5.5" bolt from Rona that was a 1/2" short, I went to HD and grabbed a 6" bolt.

Got home, went to put it in, realized I was short again by 1/2"! WTF? Compared the 2 bolts, it seems that I ended up with another 5.5" bolt ARRGG!

So I went back to Rona again, with one of my 5.5" bolts in hand to make sure I get the right size. Grab a 6" bolt, put it next to my 5.5", and realize this 6" bolt is 1" bigger than the one I already have? WTF.

So it turns out, the initial bolt I bought from Rona, which I thought was 5.5" was actually a 5", and then the bolt I got from the 6" box at HD was ALSO a 5".

And no I'm not an idiot and wasn't grabbing from the wrong bins. While at Rona I confirmed their 5.5" box had a bunch of different sized bolts!

So in conclusion, 5.5" was the right size for my stock also. And also, always make sure your getting the right size bolts regardless of what the bin is labeled!

(This $1 bolt ended up costing me a fortune if you count diesel fuel and time wasted!)

Good to know! Thanks. I bought a sling mount for my 590 and when I replaced the bolt, I noticed there wasn't a whole lot of turning required before it tightened up making me feel that there's probably 3 or maybe 4 threads keeping it in place. I'll have to pop into HD for a longer bolt.
