Recently picked up a Mossberg 42M(c) and a Mossberg 146B T bolt. Both were in okay condition, but missing some parts.
The front stock on the 42 was a lighter colour than the rear. Had some pretty good scratches on it too.
Little gel paint remover, matched some Dark Walnut stain for the front, a few coats of Miniwax Antique Oil Finish.

Although it came with a s130 peep, it was missing the rear sight.
Big thx to headhunter2 for sending me one.
Both rifles had lost their front sight hoods. Without a cover to protect them, any little bump could damage the 4 different blades that you could choose.

Spent some time trying to source a couple hoods to no avail.
Thought I'd just make a couple. Found this in a pile of junk. Had the spring metal I was after plus it was close to the right diameter.

Got the dremel out, made a few cuts here and there for the locking tabs...and voila...had myself a couple of hoods.

Already had the 42 to the range...nice tight group at 30m.
Just hope the 146B has the same results.

Good one! Did you get the 2 little stops in front of the hood. If not it won't matter as a clip supply is as close as an office supply store. That was a lot better than my attempts. - Bill

The slings are not Mossberg OEM. But the price is right and work well on Milsurp rifles that take 1" slings.
Might have snagged the last few a week ago. Seems they're on B/O right now.

Yes like in the top pic. The bottom hood is what I was trying to explain to you.
It's a Moss hood just not sure for what rifle.

I tried to find a picture for you but didn't. If you check for a model 26 parts diagram you will see 2 front sights, The S239 base has the 4 holes for the S206 hood. The sight is completed with a S240 post. When Mossberg updated the front sight (S101/S106) the first ones retained the 4 holes to use up the stock of S206 hoods. The parts diagram shows the S101 as the second sight using a hood as you made. I think yous was a good idea and should be posted on the other site. - Bill
