I picked up a Mossberg HS12 o/u as a fun SG customization build/sell project, I decided to start with a small touch of polishing to break up the black. In which I acquired through a FA friendly business I found in the GTA(professional, clean/organized shop, experienced, qoute on time/cost) . If you are interested PM me and I can pass on the 411. Amazing job considering the hardness of the forged steel, "Under promising and over delivering".

The above is just a test, I got some more plans for the SG, I want to do a 2 sided military Can/USA tribute.

Lazer engraving the stock with

And on the opposite side

(Not sure if I'm going to paint or just leave the "negative" look, your guys thoughts?)

*My color choice for the barrels/action are as follows; sniper green or tungsten cerakote?, stock fore end pic rail trigger guard, etc Black.

Tungsten looks nice, but you can't go wrong Sniper Grn/ODG

The wood is elegant.

^^^^^^^(The above SG's are newer versions of the HS12/Maverick, "Fixed Choke" produced by KhanArms)^^^^^^^

If anyone in the US/Can can help me I am looking for 2 Beretta Mobil Extended Ported chokes, (IC/M) https://www.beretta.com/en-us/gun-a...oke-tubes/beretta-mobilchoke-ported-12-gauge/
please pm me.

Ty. Shotgun related parts likes chokes, stocks, etc are ITAR exempt from my previous purchases through Mesa Tactical.

I want to replicate the famous "FT" nose on the muzzle end(top choke red, bottom black/teeth & mouth on both sides of barrel, eyes on either side of front iron sights.

And a few other important dates, insignias, and possible Lazer engraving on the action. Can't wait to get started. What do you think of my overall concept? Or suggestions. Ty.

I like your concept. I'd definitely recommend Cerakoting. The original finish scuffs easily. I didn't bother having mine done because I use it as a truck gun and don't really care what it looks like.
I've owned two of those. Sold the first one and regretted it so I bought a second.

They work well after the hinge loosens up with use. When they're new it can be difficult to load/unload the bottom barrel.

I'd also recommend removing the trigger sear safety that prevents it from firing when the barrel is pointed downward. My first one froze up the first time I tried to use it in -20 weather preventing it from firing. Lost a bunny because of it!
It's pretty simple to do and there are a few how-to Youtube videos on the subject.

Have fun with your project! I can't wait to see the final results!

Appreciate your thoughts and suggestions Orion, I agree the finish from the Manufacturer isn't the most durable(what color choice? ODG/TUNGSTEN. Some of the raw metal isn't finished all that well and you mentioned the (hinge) stiffness, what I noticed is that the tolerances are tight between the faces that touch each other and those "set pins" were a little long causing some friction/gauling on there surfaces. So I sanded/hand polished those surfaces with great results in relieving some of the stiffness/friction/gauling, allowing it to open more consistently to clear the bottom shell.

I also want to take a look at the finish on the cocking bar prehaps it needs a clean up or more rounds through it as you mentioned.

Ah the inertia weight was the first procedure, the YT video was helpful, but the gentleman over complicated his removal. I simple removed the "retaining pin" of the pendulum and pulled it out the bottom through the mainspring and chassis.

I'll post when completed.

If it were me I'd choose the tungsten finish. I like the contrast with the black stock. Tungsten would look great with a wooden stock too. ODG not so much IMO.

I don't know why he had a problem removing his. Earlier model?
Anyway, it's a silly idea on a gun marketed as a defensive shotgun.

Appreciate the feedback. Ty. Agree.

I also found that the HS12 is really front end heavy, so I took about 1/2 pds of lead shot and embedded them in construction adhesive in the butt end, and created a weather resistant removable foam insert for the stock to deaden the plastic sound.

The HS12 is my favourite do-all gun, I’ve owned several over the years. The stock and sights are like they were made specifically for me as the gun just leaps into my arms and puts my target instantly in my sights. I have a few sub calibre inserts to round out its versatility too. Great to see others’ projects.

That wood stocked version above sure looks nice.

Kinda looks like the A-TAC Camo.

Appreciate the post and great work, I was also thinking of shell holders and came across these they seem practical and affordable.

I want to do some additional "stippling" on the top and bottom of the pistol grip, find it slippery.

Agree, the wood version is sweet, prehaps there are company’s out there that fabricate replica stocks/fore end?

I don’t recall the specifics, but there is a Turkish-made O/U with compatible furniture that I was looking at once upon a time.

Edit: it might be the Mossberg Silver Reserve.

Found the wood model at KhanArms in the 2015 catalog https://khanarms.com/images/catalogs/khan2015.pdf only year available in that A-TAC/HS12 model since the conception in 2011. Stock/forend changed in 2016 to the new action design.

Now to contact KA to see if they have any laying around

I also highly recommend removing the pendulum “toe” safety, a defensive shotgun that can’t shoot downhill isn’t much good if you’re treed by a bear or have something on two legs after you coming up from downstairs.

Roger that.

I have been doing some research on o/u actions (types/function) and the issue the Maverick HS12 (stiffness only when cocking the hammers) is because they used the same springs from the longer barreled (Maverick Hunter 28" barrel)

Do a spring check. Open the gun after it has been fired, then close it. Open it again without firing it. Was it easier to open? If it was easy to open you need to put some weaker or shorter springs in the gun. Then it will be easy to open.

I will be cutting off a single coil at a time and see the difference in the ease of the "cocking the hammers" before deciding if it needs more.
