18" barrel
9-round capacity
pistol grip instead of full stock
and possible heat shield

Any help on legality/avaliability?

No such beast in existence. It's the 20" models that have 9 round capacity. Just buy one of those and install a pistol grip on it.

Everything is perfectly legal.

Bass Pro sells the Mariner 590 with pistol grip... just order a heat shield after

I think Leg is correct. You should start by looking at the models on the Mossberg website. You may need to buy something close, then pick up parts. In Edmonton Milarm, Wholesale Sports, and P&D may have Mossberg 590's. I bought a 590, 20", 8+1 capacity, ghost ring sights, speed feed stock, ... from P&D this spring. Something like $525

I have the same SG minus the heat shield. She is a real work horse....never a simgle FTF/FTE.
