Mossberg Maverick 88, good starter SG?

you can shoot foster slugs thru the 28" barrel as is, even with a full choke, but I would suggest using a modified choke or ifyou wantto go for sabot style slugs get a rifled choke tube.
 
if you mounted a reciever mounted scope sight sure you could get resonable accuracy, resonable being 4-6" at 100 yds....

shotguns with slugs should be considered to be the modern equiv. to a muzzle loader, keep your shots in a reasonable distance of 100 yds or less and you will do fine.... you may be able to stretch it to 150yds IF YOU practice alot and learn all the variables of you ad your gun.

frankly with foster slugs I would take 50 yd shots and only extend it past that with a sure rest and a steady trigger finger....
 
cheap ammo, slugs are between $1-$2 each, so a box of 5 will be 5-10 bucks.... trap loads are $6.99 a box of 25, and hunting loadas are around $20 per 25 unless you go bismuth or steel then double it.
 
I have an older 88, with a single slide rail, great light gun although mine is down right now as the composite forend broke where the rail attaches. Sucks having to wait 3-4 weeks to get the part up here from the states, but no one stocks that part.
 
ya, i probably would be using a rifle for anything past 50-100 yds anyways, i just like having it as an option when thats all i have on me. what do you guys think od the cheap can-tire bulk packs? i think there federal or winchester? #7.5? just for 'casual' skeet and, blowing targets (gophers, grackles, etc) to bits?
 
YES!!!!

Why pay more for a Mossy when the Maverick is not only made by them, but i own both and its really no difference I can tell, except the extra cost of owning the Mossy.
