Mossberg Maverick HS-12 o/u

Not off hand but be aware they have or did have a toe safety. Not sure if they still have it but it is a stupid thing to have. If the gun is pointed passed a set angle a tumbling safety kicks in. Great for deer walking under a treestand. Bad for anyone using it as a defense tool

What a ####ing ridiculous feature for a gun. I'm assuming it's called a toe safety so you can't blow your toes off by accident?

The pendulum safety is a simple 2 minute job to remove. Once done, the HS12 is my favourite all-around gun of any type. I have owned and continue to own several of them, and all three models have their strengths and weaknesses but I wouldn’t be picky were I to pick up another one. The EE and other sites are where I look regularly, but a few dealers still have them on the shelves, albeit for higher prices than I would prefer to pay. Anyway, they are out there and if you find one for under $450 I would grab it without delay. If you’re willing to pay a premium, the $600 or so is what the dealers want.

Correct. I tried one at the club and it couldnt shoot anything on the ground within 10 yards unless you kneeled down. I never looked into seeing about taking it out. I just handed it back to the owner and we had a good laugh when he said hed weld it up and use it as a shifter for his pickup

Change of plans. I did a little more reading on the Mossberg and found out it has extractors. I'd like ejectors. So a russian O/U it'll be

Well, I did some asking around and picked up a Hungarian FEG 500 ES o/u shotgun. It is really nicely blued, has cocked hammer indicators, selective ejectors (never knew such a thing existed!) a cheek piece but the real thing I noticed is the butt stock has such a severe cast off I thought it was either cracked or bent!
I think its nicer on the eye's then the Russian o/u's, but I want a brush gun to carry when I'm out walking the dogs and picking berries. I don't know if I can modify this to my wants.

By no means a pretty gun a feg 300es makes a perfect candidate to be cut down. Theyre well built. Strong well timed ejectors. Dense strong plain grain wood. They sport modern stock dimensions as well so they shoot quite nice. My buddy just picked one up a couple months ago for $225 and another friend just sold one in excellent condition for $300
They have no collector value and Hungarian sxs guns are tightly choked and sport dual triggers which not a popular choice anymore so they are very under priced.

Maybe I'll pick up another one as a spare.
I spent a lot of time looking at the russian o/u and s/s's. Does no one make replacement stock's? So many of them are cracked!

I have Baikal SXSs and an FEG and I find it a bit unsettling how slim the wrists are on them all, especially compared to my IGA coachgun which has a 2X4 at the wrist area. Not a particularly slender gun but it does give you a bludgeoning option once your 2 shots are spent.

Id have no issues using either of my baikals as a bat if i had to. My ij58 has been a stellar preformer and was at one time my favorite gun for trap and skeet and it saw substantial use. Id buy another if i thought mine would break
