Mossberg Maverick

And lighter. Both the Remington and the Winchester are considerably heavier. I really like how nice and light these guns are, and yes that is important if your carrying it all day long. I was hoping to get mine out to the range yesterday for some test firing but just didn't have the time. But I have looked over this gun alot now, I really like it. So much so I think I'll pick up another.

I'm on the same boat, I got the 20" barrel 7 shot, for the price of a long-barrel, I might as well just get a field 28"....

What is the ammo capacity of the 18 1/2" Maverick? (the one they sell at Cabelas for $219)

If I am loading 2 3/4" shells, is it 5+1 or 6+1?

They describe it as a "6 shot capacity" but that is a little vague.

" I think it's 5+1...I just got the 8 shot and it's 7+1 "

Thanks. Where did you buy the 8-shot Maverick?
I have never seen one for sale in Canada.

I got mine from cedarvalleyhunting.ca, I think it was around ~$260. I also think wholesalesports carries them as well (in their catalogue).

I've had my Maverick 88 for almsot 20 years now. mud, snow, ice, river & swamp water, dust, dirt and any other thing you can throw at it, and theonly thing that stopped it so far was getting a msall branch hung up in the action. Otherwise, it is probably the most reliable shotgun I have ever known. Not the prettiest, but for the price fo them, I don't think a person can go wrong with it.

hmm can't find anything on their website. I'll have to check in store.

Would love a 7+1 mav as I'm planning to put a pistol grip on it. The bolt safety is much more accessible

Yeah I'm loving mine so far:

Don't get your hopes up for the safety, although the placement is way better than the Mossberg 500, it is really stiff and takes quite a bit of effort to operate the safety. It's still doable with your trigger finger, while in a shooting position, but the first time you do it the stiffness will catch you off guard. I'm hoping it loosens up over time....

they are a fantastic fun cheap gun. out with my wife's family skeet shooting and 3 of them turned out for the day. over 1000 rounds through them all and not a problem.

great gun and large variety of accessories for mossy 500 fit this gun.

cheers and happy shooting

Is replacing the forend grip very hard for a rookie? I watched some videos and it seems like a lot of parts. i'm guessing I'd have to learn how to strip and clean the weapon anyways..

I'm thinking of putting a ATi tri rail forend grip on there with a tapco stubby grip. I have a bad wrist injury which would make holding the shotgun quite painful without it. should I just spend the extra 75 dollars or so and get the Mossberg 500 Tri rail package from Cabelas?

Wholesale Sports had them on special for $199.99
When I went to buy it, they didn't have them in
So.... He put one on order for me (With the coupon $20)
4 weeks later they phone me.... They have it in
I said, I'll be there on monday
Monday I was there and they didn't have it... Apparently they sell them by the weekend!

I was furious.... Twice I drove there from Vancouver and this is what I get???
I demanded to speak to the manager
The manager said we are very sorry, the best I (She) can do is order another and sell it at cost for $149.99
My friend said "can you make it two"!!!!!

Now I have two units (1 field and 1 security) for $300.00!!!!!!

woohoo

I am willing to sell one without the barrel for $100
(I want to keep them to interchange ;).... hehe)

Over all... For tactical I would prefer a better unit but for the price

Who cares.... Its just another gun in your safe I think!

Yup, I'm happy with the Maverick I picked up a few weeks ago. Frontier firearms has them for 229$ shipping included, can't go wrong.

I've already put over 300 rounds through it without a hiccup.

bought my girlfriend one as her first gun so far its been great for the price jams up maybe 1 outta 75 but like i said for the price cant go wrong we put on a tac star side saddle and heat sheild on the barrel as well as a ATI adjustable pistol grip stock on it.Its a fun light gun.

If its only $75 difference get the Mossberg Tri-rail. Hical sells a replacement tri-rail forend for Mav 88 but its $87.

I have to agree. It's nothing fancy but it does what I want and it didn't cost me a whole lot. I added a Mesa sureshell carrier and GG&G sling plate (cost about half the price of the gun!) and its good to go. Value for money paid = excellent.
