Mossberg model 400 and 500 differances?

Anyone know the differances between the two. I didn't know there was such thing as a model 400 and do parts interchange between the two?Thanks for your time
 
I've got a 400G, not sure what the differences are between it and the 500 but everything I've added to it so far fits perfectly and they were labeled model 500 parts.
 
Zero difference. The 400g was made in Canada, and the 500 in the states. So I guess you could say the difference is 500 miles.:) ( from Lakefield, ON to New Haven, CT)

All parts are interchangeable.

My Canadian made 400 sports a steel safety. The newer 500's are plastic. Most 400's are older of course but they are better built than the 500's due to the era they were produced. I would buy a used 400 over a newer 500 any day. Having said that the 500 I own has never failed me.
