I finally got to the range yesterday after a long lousy winter.

I was really interested in trying my Mossberg MVP 5.56, I got set up fired about 12 factory rounds, then the gun wouldn't fire.

When I squeezed the trigger the striker assembly would only move about 3 or 4mm, not the full 10 or 12mm.

I took the bolt out a few times and checked it over everything appeared to be ok, but it wouldn't fire the bullet.

The sear was doing its job but the striker wouldn't go all the way.

I took it home and disassembled the bolt put it back together and it worked.

No dirt in the gun or inside the bolt body.

Has anyone ever had this happen?

I have had a problem that sounds similar to your description.

Do you have all the brass cases you fired? Blown primer a possibility?

I had a primer pop out and lodge on the barrel stub. The bolt would not quite close.

I checked my brass and it was all IVI ball and PMC 223 no blown primers or anything like that.
I was looking at the bolt head and it wouldn't take much to jam the firing pin as there isn't much clearance in the bolt head.
