Mossberg MVP Patrol .223 - After 2 years, finally shot it........

I went to the range yesterday with it. I have an old Redfield 2x7 on it. I was going to sight the irons in at 25 yards first but I forgot my Pachmayr screwdriver and none of my Allen keys fit the rings so............

Conditions horrible, raining and windy, 14C.

Shooting .223 ball I shot at 25 yards to get it on paper and it was only an inch right and elevation good. After adjusting it I shot it at 100 yards and it printed 1.5 MOA with the ball ammo.

I was surprised that it grouped that well using only a front bag. The bolt was floppy but there were no failures to feed, extract or to fire.

I was surprised by the trigger. It had a bit of creep and then stacked up and needed a firm 5 lbs to break. I'm going to play with the trigger adjustment screw to see if it'll improve.

Still, 1.5 MOA with ball from a cheap beater rifle that takes STANAG mags is OK with me.
Funny I recently bought one in 5.56. I had one previously that I bought new for sub $600 only to sell without ever firing it. I decided to buy one again but now theyre $850+.

Spent time going through reviews online. Everyone saying 4-5 MOA gun. Chucked a red dot on mine and was getting 1.5 inch groups at 50 yards shooting off hand using my dirty old 55gr reloads. Pretty happy with it

I’ve got one in 308… unfired.

Also have the Ruger American gen 2 in 5.56 still in the box.

I live on 30 acres in the middle of nowhere, and have no excuse except I’m still playing with… other rifles in the same caliber. 🙄

I have to confess that i have 3 that are new and unfired. Probably 3-4 years old now🤦‍♀️
Apparently i have an acquisition problem.
I’m guilty too
Have a bunch of milsurp rifles, sporting rifles and shotguns that I’ve yet to put a round through
Also have 4 handguns that I’ve never tried :(

I don't understand how you guys can not shoot those things. I suppose it makes sense if you have a bunch of rare and irreplaceable collectables; somehow "rare" and "irreplaceable" are words that just don't want to live in the same sentence as "Mossberg". :)

I've bought, traded and sold hundreds of guns, mostly rifles, in the past 60 years. I think that there's only one that I never fired, and that was only because an acquaintance had such a severe hard-on for it and offered me so much more than I had paid for it that very morning that I let it go...and even then I made him promise to give me first right of refusal in case he decided to sell it. He never did.

Hell, since moving out of the city and onto a rural acreage 28 years ago, I don't think there are very many that didn't get fired on the same day that I received them! :)

I mean, sometimes life just gets in the way. Other times, it's a function of ammo or powder availability.

Last fall I was up to 6 or so rifles I'd either never fired, or hadn't fired since swapping optics. I'll admit that it stressed me out though, and I took some time over the winter to get them all dialed in.

Depending on where you live it can be hard to find a place to shoot. I only went once last year but I still buy because by the time you can find a place to go use it the price of the gun has increased. And mostly now they are just couch guns that I fondle when watching a movie that is related to the gun.
That wood stock looks incredible on that gun. Not sure which movie i would fondle it to though

I bought an AR with Bushnell LVPO FFP which has a 5.56 reticle. I quickly decided it was too heavy, and I'm not shooting passed 100y, normally under 50y, so I put a T2 on it. This scope was never going to get used. MVP Patrol put my LAR Stanag mags to use, and this scope is perfect for it. The trigger on mine is pretty good, but the bolt is a sloppy mess. Still, it works 100%, just feels sh!tty.

I've had it almost 10 years, and used to take it out every few months, but not since 2020. I don't hunt and I'm not really into rifles. I got this to play with, when I take the AR to longer ranges. Now without AR fun, I really only shoot handgun, and this has become a safe queen. I should probably just sell it, and my 5.56 ammo.

I also have a Chiappa 357 Mare's leg, never shot. Two 870s, never shot. Ruger 10/22 take down, never shot. Maybe some others I am forgetting, I haven't been in my rifle safe for a few years.

Looking online seems like the mvp patrol has been discontinued and replaced with the mvp patrol "professional"
Can't find much online about them but I wonder when they will be making it up here.
