Kind of want to get one of these. Not at all sure what I would use it for, I currently have a few other tactical shotguns, so it will be little redundant. If any of you have one, how is it? How is it to shoot? I thought it might make a nice little grouse gun to throw in my pack (with a plug in it, stupid Sask laws).

I don't have the Nightstick but have the synthetic Shockwave. No problem hitting anything with it but I haven't tried past about 25 yards.
I've used birdshot, buckshot and slugs, all aimed, firing at eye level.
The biggest problem is how high it shoots. I wish it had a bead on a pedestal like the 870's.
If you're shooting at a chicken in a tree you don't want to aim any higher than its feet 🙂
Handy little pack around gun.
I like mine. If you find you don't care for the raptor grip but like it otherwise, you can always put a regular buttstock on it and still have a compact gun, especially with something like a short LOP Hogue or a folder.

I assume you mean the whole Mossberg 590 Shockwave line, right? Nightstick is just the wood stock version.

Lots of fun, certainly something different. They're available in 12ga, 20ga, and 410, which you should consider if you're really going to hunt grouse with it.

I had one in 12ga and it was heavier than what I wanted - The 14" ones only come with the A1 profile barrel on it, so it was barely lighter than my 12" barrel full stock 870 (which I kept). Maybe one of the other chamberings would make more sense for grouse hunting. The short 12ga is much more suited for use inside a vehicle or tent, though. But if I am honest I just don't do enough of that to make it worthwhile. ;)

Brobee put up a good thread on hunting deer with one here somewhere.

Nightstick is definitely the coolest looking of the shockwave style guns and the wood feels nicer and more quality than the plastic furniture, IMO. Short and not too heavy to pack around compared to some other options, takes a bit more technique to operate well than a full stocked gun but manageable, with the low bead they do shoot a bit high but that can be fixed/worked around.

A lot of fun to shoot!

Can add a full stock later on if desired for pretty cheap too if you decide to go that route.

Adding a recoil strap to the birds head grip is something that really makes a difference for control and would highly recommend for any shockwave.

If you mean the Mossbergs with the bird's head grip -- they look cool but there are other far more effective options for a short shotgun. They're fun to goof around with but are basically a novelty item.

If you're dead set on getting a PGO shotgun then granted the bird's head is the most comfortable to use style of pistol grip... but personally I would rather go with a shorter barrel and a full, but short LOP stock.
