I'm looking to get a nice little .308 and I've heard some good things about the Nighttrain 2. Does anyone have one of these that can back that up? Only talked to two people, so I don't have much to go off of.

It's a mossberg...... I don't like the quality. I work at a firearms counter and see mossbergs, of all types, come back for warranty issues. Makes me stay away from them completely. Buy a savage if you are looking for something in that price range.

I've never held Mossberg in very high esteem. Spend a few dollars more and get a
Savage. My son inlaw has a savage 308, and I have an older 300 and they are
excellent Deer rifles. But I don't consider either to be long range. If I want to reach out I'll use my Remmington 7mm mag.

the Mossberg 4x4 in .270win i just sold was a tack driver and the quality seemed quite good, the only reason i sold mine was... the bolt was to small for my fat little fingers, i guess it depends how much your going to use it.

just my 2cts

There have been lots of threads about the mossy ATR action.

Accuracy reports are sporadic, some shoot, a lot don't. They would be a fine deer rifle if there weren't so many reliability problems reported as well.

I too have been tempted by the Mossy ATR with the fluted barrel and Laminate in 308 with a 10 twist barrel for under $400. Doesn't look like that bad of a package. Would be a nice starter rifle, but why waste time and money on a rifle that shoots minute of barn door when we have so many options for great shooting rifles.

My advice, for a few money pennies and less bling you can get a Stevens 200 or as you already mentioned a Tikka and be done with it.

I had one for a year, put about 80 rounds through it before I sold it. Sold it becouse to fund my new Mountain Rifle
Few coments on Mosberg Nighttrain2
Pluses
1. It is a precision rifle on the budget
2. It will shoot sub MOA without any problems
3. Action works smoothly
4. Good triger

Minuses
1. magazin seems to be taken from long action, you have to load it with care so the rounds are not to much to the front so it does not jam. If loaded with care magazin works fine
2. Scope is just oversize for this rifle, range use no problem but in the field you have to be carefull not too hit it or make it go loose (If you buy it take apart the scope, mount and remounted all with lock tied, it keeps it preaty solid
3. Stock is a bit thin, gaves you entry level Savage feeling

The only issue I had with the rifle was the scope mount to get loose after 20 rounds but it was easly corrected with locktied
