Looking at a few different over/unders that are under $1000. Just got into the gun games and have been using my 870 but would like an O/U for the quicker double shots....any opinions on the mossberg silver field or any of the other affordable O/U's?
Thanks

There are tons of reports of the firing pin breaking with them. This may or may not be corrected by now but unfortunately with cheapo o/u's you get what you pay for. Wait around on the EE for a used Citori to come up. You might be able to find one around 1000.

Correct. There has been various complaints about the Mossberg Silver Reserve. By the way, it is made in Turkey.

There is a difference between cheap and inexpensive shotguns. Cheap is just cheap in quality and has poor engineering. While inexpensive can have proper engineering and be reliable, but it will come with basic, plain finish.

The Mossberg Silver Reserve is cheap.
The Baikal over unders are inexpensive.

I've shot the Stevens 512, the Mossberg, and the baikal.
For my money, the Baikal is the one.
They sem to hold together better.
I have also shot a few Stoegers, and they held up well....

I bought a used Beretta ultralight OU on here for 1100 bucks a few years ago, and I LOVE IT.
That said, I had a Stoeger for 15 years before that and it was solid until it met the Bay of Fundy mud - then it died (but not many guns can stand up to that!). Check out the Yildiz guns. I know nothing about them, but they are reasonably priced and look quite nice. Also, they are lighter than most inexpensive OUs.

while I don't shoot that much trap & skeet, I do like my Mossberg with the 2 sets of barrells(20 & 28). The fireing pin prob.is corrected, I'm told. I do have a skeet gun in a browning superposed I got used for $750. Different guns for different use.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm thinking I might save a little more and keep my eyes open for a Browning Citori on the boards. Are the Cynergy shotguns just as good?

Marstar has a nice looking one for $529 or so.... I had a Bailkal that I absolutly loved! Got it for $300 and It's only problem is that is was full over full, great for hunting, no good for skeet.

Yea.....the Mossberg was something i could afford now but I'll probably be happier to wait and save and get something worth handing down to the grandkids. My 870 will have to do till then.

go on trade ex canada great o/u's for 375-600 got a brno and love it. does alright at trap but would want the chokes opened up for anything else, not a big deal
