I am looking at purchasing a 270win and can't decide between the mossberg 100ATR and the Stevens 200. I will be putting a Burris Fullfield II scope on it. Any one have or shot either? This will just be my deer shooter.(I love my 300 winmag too much to not use it for elk/moose)

Thanks

My Stevens 200 came out of the box shooting very well, there are a lot of mods that are well presented on the internet, trigger and bedding.

I did replace the trigger spring and I did weight the stock. You will likely want to weight the stock as well after firing a few rounds.

There is a pretty wide following for the 200. When I looked I didn't see the same for the Mossberg but no comment as I haven't fired one.

I suggest that you "Google" both rifles to gather the experience of other shooters. I have owned a Stevens 200 in .223 an it was very accurate. The only thing I did was to lighten the factory trigger

Stevens hands down. I've been completely turned off by Mossberg rifles. Their shotguns still rock in my opinion..... but their rifles are crap.

look into the Marlin XL7.
should be around the same price as the Stevens (IIRC someone mentioned they were going around $350ish at WSS and bass pro), all reports of these guns have been very positive so far.

I used to have a mossberg 4x4 in .270win (same action as the ATR) and it was great, very accurate from the box. trigger was a little heavy on it though.

I now am using a marlin XS7 in 7mm-08 and I like it a little better, comes with a much nicer trigger from the factory, (also) accurate right out of the box, and (most important to me) it's synthetic stock is a lot lighter than the heavy walnut I had on the mossberg.

Stevens are well reviewed economy rifles as well. Go to the store hold all three and pick the one that feels best to you.

I bought the SAVAGE 111fcxp3 in .300 win mag,. great firearm. love that recoil pad. wish i had bought the STEVENS 200 though. Same gun but with the older SAVAGE grey stock. The extra $75 or so dollars i paid for the SLING and CHEAPO SIMMONS scope (rings and bases) could have gone towards the LEUPOLD vxII 3x9x40 scope and basas. The Savage or Stevens are probably the best --dam ops!!!!! sorry DARN rifles for the price out there. Reload and have fun. POPS

No first hand experience, but I've heard ATRs will shred extractors and have firing pin issues. There's also the bolt issue, but from what I've researched, it seems pretty one off. If it was a repetitive issue, Mossberg would have addressed it already and recalled the rifles due to avoidance of a lawsuit.

Anyway, get the Stevens. There's a lot of new hype over the Marlin XL7/XS7's, but the Stevens (along with the 110 action that it's built with) have been out there in the field for quite a few years now and have been proven reliable.

I've got a Stevens 30-06 and it shoots way better than a $400 rifle should with 180 gr NPTs. Always sub MOA and usually well sub MOA. Truly one of the best purchases I've ever made.

For me the mossberg is a non starter, the stevens is tried and true, dont know first hand about the marlin but heard nothing bad so far. To answer your original choices STEVENS

Mossberg really dropped the ball with their rifles in this day and age, they are nothing like the ones they made 20+ years ago.
