Mossberg Patriot Safari 375 Ruger in hand

It's amazing how well the NEW KING has taken off, although it's not surprising. Just as predicted, more and more rifle manufacturers have seen how much the 375 Ruger appeals to people, and have added rifles to their line up to capitalize on the tremendous popularity of what is quickly becoming the most successful .375 cartridge of all time.

Gatehouse, I love the 375 Ruger, I know you can make 375 Ruger from .300 WM, correct me if I'm wrong but if you want factory ammo the only option is Hornady or Nosler.

I'm going for a relaxed load, around 2600 with 270gr Speers if it's accurate. I'll start with 71 gr RL15 and see if it shoots straight. The optic has a bdc reticle, so a little less velocity is easy to adjust for. If it shoots like an '06 but with a bullet 70 grains heavier, it will accomplish my goal. Being lighter than the CZ with a smaller area butt, top loads could get hurtful.

And there is a specialty ammo maker in the USA that makes it, although the name escapes me now.

Several people on CGN have made brass from 300WM, but the Hornady brass and ammunition is readily available so I've never bothered. Good to know if someone has lots of 300WM brass that they want to use up, though.

My $450 savage (with scope) 375 ruger turned out to be my lightest rifle (6lbs) and the most accurate gun I have ever shot with groups sub 0.5 inch groups. It is ugly, I had to add over a pound to weight to it to get it somewhat enjoyable to shoot. I have a Boyd stock for it, but no bottom metal so it sits in the box. And it is all gatehouses fault I got interested in the 375 ruger

.416 Ruger Alaskan with Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 3-9x33mm scope

I had that scope on a 6lb 260 Remington and couldn't keep it off my forehead, not sure how I'd like it on a 416!

375 Ruger from 300 WM? How would that work? .300 WM have a belt.

hope this will help you to get a clue about it .....

Range report

Not relaxing to shoot off the bench. It's a light rifle with a small area butt. I have a slip on pad added. A 180gr in '06 launches 2600 or so, this is adding 90gr to the projectile while maintaining velocity in the same rifle20 rounds of 71gr RL15 under Speer 270 gr. You can jam 4 rnds in the mag, too tight to feed well. Also, I had the 3rd round in the mag losing OAL under recoil, need some crimp I guess. More consistency could improve the groups. I'll keep using this load. MV2605 fps average over 5 shots. Also had my first "wounded chrono". Not terminal, just a "dammit" moment. 3 3rnd groups @100M after sight in. 1st-2.3" 2nd- 1.4" 3rd-0.87". My bench position and technique improves as I sight in a rifle, then degrades until I buy a new one. I'm using a Caldwell bag set and a 2x4 box spacer up front. Real precision guys could do better I'm sure. My CZ in 375H&H is heavier with a larger area butt on the Boyds stock. It feels gentler on the bench shooting the same bullet 200fps-ish faster. I don't see offhand with the Mossberg 375 Ruger being painful, but I won't be going for a 270@2800fps either. To quote my father,"There is not such thing as a free lunch". Quite happy overall. This a bargain gun that looks decent, very handy weight and length, has good nasty weather features, in a chambering that is powerful and flexible enough for anything that walks in North America. If Mossberg shipped rifles in this chambering they would sell. That is if the idiots in big box management would order anything past 300WM.
