Mossberg Patriot Safari 375 Ruger in hand

A Vortex Diamondback 2-8x32. It was very foggy and the bullets moving under recoil probably made velocity vary. The chronoed rnds were single loaded. I'm curious how the cold bore shot +2 group will look like.

The shorter 22" barrel is a nice feature. I load my 375 H&H mag., which has a 21-1/4" barrel, with 300gr bullets at 2375 fps MV. The shorter barrel gives the rifle a handier feel.

Another range trip same load. First 3rnd grp 0.94"@100M, 2 1/2"-3" after. The first rounds were probably a bit quicker( bit more powder) and rifle cool. I've made up some H4350 higher end loads to see if things tighten up. The recoil on the bench isn't fun, but I don't think I'm flinching. Offhand I found the trigger better than Savage and CZ. I haven't adjusted it, might before the next range visit. A solid adjustable rest for the forend and better rear bag would simplify things, but so would a chassis system and brake. I've got to shoot one of those one day to compare.

No more Vortex for me.

Moot point now. The rifle has never been in a sled, but the Vortex Diamondback reticle canted 15* left after a standing offhand shot today. Own 3 Vortex products, this and SPARC have crapped out. No more Vortex for me. So I wait 2-3 weeks to get a new one, or spend another $4-$500 I don't have. Load development suspect now too; don't know when the scope was the issue.

Can't say I've ever knocked a reticle loose. I have an old Leupold 2.5x scope that has been on a number of my heavy kickers over the years and hasn't failed. It's currently on my .45-70 Marlin.

I've been looking at a new VX3i 2.5-8 online, but just put $3k into the old pickup... When I shake the Vortex something rattles inside. Maybe it's a 1 off failure, I'll test the new one the same way and find out.

I think it's a great scope for the .375 Ruger's ballistic. Of course, I'm a little biased. ;)
