Mossberg SA-20 questions

K here is my questions, is there a break in procedure for the SA-20? I can't seem to get 7/8 oz shells to cycle. Second question is do they make a lighter piston or aftermarket piston for it so it will shoot the lighter loads for skeet? Do I need to shoot a bunch of 3" magnums in it to break it in like other semi auto's?
 
Yup already been there, couldn't find a break in procedure! All it says is 2 3/4 15/16 oz shot, but I haven't found any skeet loads that are 15/16oz yet, was seeing if it would be possible to break it in for 7/8
 
There is a whole thread on the shotgun world forum (Mossberg section)on the Mossberg SA-20 .you may find the info there you are looking for.
 
Since it says it is designed for 15/16 oz loads minimum, it's not surprising you're having trouble with a marginally lighter load. Use 1 oz. field loads instead of magnums and it should start to free things up. Eventually you'll probably be able to shoot 7/8 oz. loads, I would imagine.

Those look like nice little guns, what else can you tell us about it?
 
I can tell you it's an amazing grouse gun, I like the fact it's so adjustable for l.o.p. my only complaint is that the front head is hard to see when shooting but I am going to put a fiber optic sight on it. Recoil wise this is probably the nicest little shotgun I have ever handled, it points beautifully and is extremely light to carry. I've even read I can put the wood furniture from a weatherby SA-08 onto it with very little modification. The thing I liked best is the fact it came with 5 chokes instead of only 3. It is extremely easy to disassemble to clean. All in all I would recommend this gun to anyone for the price.

I was seriously considering an SA-20 myself, and may still one day. If I weren't so tall (long arms) I'd almost want the SA-20 Bantam, love the short barrel. If I could easily get an adult stock for one, I'd probably go that route. Seem like a great value, I've read lots of positive reviews.
 
I have the all purposre sa-20 with 26" barrel!and I'm fairly tall and long arms as well (6'1")and find this to be really nice fit actually, I am thinking about ordering a weatherby butt stock and fore end to change it over to a wood finish. I was extremely impressed actually at how nice it did fit for my size, I actually bought it for my 15 year old son to try and get him more into shooting and less into video games lol.

With those shells from midway can I get them in Canada somewhere?

K so I went out and bought myself a reloaders and all the fixings and made a bunch of different loads, all 7/8oz, and found a combination that this little gem of a shotgun loves to shoot. Turns out the loads I was initially using didn't have the right pressure. I've found if they are a dram 2 1/2 the gun won't cycle but if they are a dram 2 3/4 it chews them up and spits them out just fine. Next to try out some 3/4oz loads next lol. All in all this little 20 gauge, for the price and quality IMO is a great little shotgun to shoot and handle. I also switched out the front bead for a fiber optic one and it has helped tremendously, I got my limit in pheasant the first day out with it, which really impressed me.
 
I bought A Mossberg SA-20 for my thirteen year old son last summer. He had some trouble with the lighter loads not ejecting at the sporting clay range, the hunting loads were no problem. The gun seemed to work a lot better after running a box of hunting loads through it, followed by a good cleaning. The only problem that persists is the very stiff bolt release button, that has to be pushed to load the magazine. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
 
I got the "tactical" version about a year ago. At first it was finicky, but now it runs everything. It's so light and so handy it's my go-to bush gun. It also shoots slugs insanely accurately. In fact I shot a 5 shot 2" group at 50 meters offhand and had to shoot another right after because it thought it was just
dumb luck. The second group opened up a little 2.5" but it proved the gun is more capable than me. I've put about 600rds including 50+ slugs and other than a very slight amount of peening on the deal that gets pushed by the piston it's been rock solid. Oh, right when I got it I was getting light strikes, but a good cleaning I the trigger group fixed that. They used what looked like a heavy grease that was gumming up the works.
