Mossberg Shockwave - Landing in Canada Soon?

Aiming with the heavy loads and not smacking yourself is the main challenge, that's where the push-pull technique works well. Push forward with the pump hand and pull back on the grip to create tension between both arms...... this seems to allow better recoil control with slugs.

The weight of the shotgun helps a bit compared to magnum revolvers, but most people specially in the 130 lb class don't seem to enjoy heavy loads....... even with a full stock.

I pretty much had to shoot from eye level, shooting from the hip is more of a trick shot than of practical use IMO, plus its physically awkward when using a vertical pistol grip. Hitting things out to 50 yards or so was no issue thanks to the rifle sights.

At no point did the gun come close to hitting me, it just doesn't take a massive amount of muscle tension to negate the recoil. The high horsepower revolvers, especially the.454 Casull, are a different story thpugh because they're so snappy and violent, compared to them, a PGO shotgun is downright gentle, with a recoil impulse that's so comparatively slow that by the time it reaches you you've already packed up and gone home! :d

I could see a vertical pistol grip being uncomfortable from the hip for sure, the birds head pretty much feels like a regular stock from the hip and is quite easy to shoot instinctively.... the snow man was my first attempt from the hip and I hit him a bit high talking off most of his head...... :)

I think you are the first guy in the history of the internet to argue that aimed PGO slugs are a cake walk...... :)

I like cake.......

brobee and werewolf are in for a shockwave shooting league and i would add my name to the list. i have a remington gun set up similar to the mossberg shockwave. i would be in for some informal shooting challenges all in good fun and to learn from each other.

How much I paid back in January of 2015.

I was asking about the Mossberg Shockwave model Shotgun (already equipped from the factory), US or cdn msrp.

a few pics of my police 870 with 14 inch remington barrel and a grip i made from thorn wood . it needs a little tweaking at the receiver but i am happy with it. i formed it to fit my hand . i was shooting this gun today with some hot bb loads and it surprised me as there was little felt recoil. automatic weaponry sling plate , plus one extension and a heavy mag spring.

hey McCoy , nice grip but i am thinking it may be a little short to get to the r.c.m.p. magical length of 26 inches with a 14 inch barrel. i may shorten mine slightly to get rid of some of the ugly but i like the fact it fits my hand . if you do not mind me asking what is the sling eye you have on your grip as it would help clean mine up if i had something similar. i have another grip that i made from cherry wood and it is far prettier and fits the receiver . it is much straiter but it does not work as well on the gun as it is too smooth and too fat . i have plans on making another one in a plow handle style just to see if i can improve on the feel and shoot ability as that is important to me .

Yes my grip is too short to be non restricted ( mine is registered as restricted btw because under 26" ) the grip came with the gun, the sling eye was on it when i bought it, it's just a regular quick detachable sling eye screwed in the back of the grip under the screw hole.

.

thanks for the info. i changed out the grip and put my cherry grip on which is much straighter and fired a few rounds. it does not work as well as the plow handle style as the gun tends to slide in my hands . it is pretty but pretty does not always get the job done.

If anyone wants one Tier One Armoury has a couple in stock. One Mossy and 870. The forbidden importer out of AZ/BC has a few in stock. I think they are both $49.95+GST+shipping.

hicock 45 has some video shooting the mossberg shockwave . i find him entertaining and he was shooting buckshot and slugs. he was getting surprising accuracy at some distant targets although he is a wiz with a gun regardless of the configuration. you tube videos is the place to look for his take on this gun.

There's not all that much to it physically, the first time I did it I was coming off a long period of illness and weighed only 130 lbs. Despite that, even shooting one handed with 3"ers wasn't uncomfortable. I'd say a magnum revolver with bear loads is much tougher to handle actually.

I shot my buds 12" outlaw 1 handed with 3" mags. Not real accurate but not painful if if you hold it like you're the boss.

Shockwave grip tip:

Many seem to use hockey tape. I find that stuff messy over time.

I use self-fusing silicone tape. Works really well. Excellent "rubbery" grip, doesn't make a sticky mess. Good for adding a bit of bulk to the grip if you prefer (I don't bother with that).
Can usually find it at Home Depot type places and auto parts suppliers.

Good idea, something like Magic Wrap would work well for sure. I might just build up the grip a bit to support the hand better with hockey tape and then go with the silicone over top.
