Aiming with the heavy loads and not smacking yourself is the main challenge, that's where the push-pull technique works well. Push forward with the pump hand and pull back on the grip to create tension between both arms...... this seems to allow better recoil control with slugs.
The weight of the shotgun helps a bit compared to magnum revolvers, but most people specially in the 130 lb class don't seem to enjoy heavy loads....... even with a full stock.
I pretty much had to shoot from eye level, shooting from the hip is more of a trick shot than of practical use IMO, plus its physically awkward when using a vertical pistol grip. Hitting things out to 50 yards or so was no issue thanks to the rifle sights.
At no point did the gun come close to hitting me, it just doesn't take a massive amount of muscle tension to negate the recoil. The high horsepower revolvers, especially the.454 Casull, are a different story thpugh because they're so snappy and violent, compared to them, a PGO shotgun is downright gentle, with a recoil impulse that's so comparatively slow that by the time it reaches you you've already packed up and gone home!
