Oshawa, ON – Public Safety Minister Bill Blair lied when he told Canadians his gun ban via Order in Council would not prohibit shotguns.

The RCMP’s Firearms Reference Table (FRT) now lists dozens of makes and models of bolt-action, pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns as Prohibited firearms through Part 87 of the Minister’s OIC gun ban.

87. The firearms of the designs commonly known as the M16, AR-10 and AR-15 rifles and the M4 carbine, and any variants or modified versions of them…

A partial list of shotguns reclassified as Prohibited firearms by the RCMP's Canadian Firearms Program in the past 24 hours include:

Adler B210 Bolt-Action Shotgun[ii]
AlphaArms 15SA Semi-Automatic Shotgun[iii]
Axor MF-1 Semi-Automatic Shotgun[iv]
Canuck Havoc Pump-Action Shotgun[v]
Derya Arms VR90 Semi-Automatic Shotgun[vi]
Eternal FX12 Semi-Automatic Shotgun[vii]
(many more guns being added as this is written including the Canadian made Maccabee Defence rifles)

It is crystal clear that Minister Bill Blair lied to Canadians about banning shotguns.

He either lied on May 1st, 2020, during Justin Trudeau’s virtue-signalling press conference:[viii]

“I want to assure hunters and farmers and target shooters in this country that nothing that we are doing today or will do in the future is intended to interfere with this lawful, responsible and legal activity.”

Or Bill Blair lied on May 5th, on Facebook:[ix]

“Earlier today, the Canadian Shooting Sports Association issued a statement alleging that our government is banning 12 and 10 gauge shotguns. This is absolutely incorrect and we will be reaching out to them to correct their misunderstanding.”

Or he lied on Twitter that same day:[x]

“Earlier today, the @CSSA_CILA issued a statement alleging that our government is banning 12 and 10 gauge shotguns. This is absolutely incorrect and we will be reaching out to them to correct their misunderstanding.”

Or Bill Blair lied to Parliament on May 6th when he said:

“I'll repeat one more time, 10-gauge and 12-gauge shotguns are not prohibited under this order in council.”[xi]

And

“We have been very clear. This does not cover 10-gauge and 12-gauge shotguns. The police will understand that. They know how to do their jobs. I trust them.”[xii]

Or Bill Blair lied to Parliament on May 7th when he said:

“We're not banning any toys and we're not banning shotguns.”

Or Bill Blair lied to Parliament on May 14th when he said:

“…the Canadian firearms program has made it explicitly clear that 10 and 12-gauge shotguns are not included in this prohibition. All people who were concerned about that need not be concerned.”

And

“Perhaps the member did not hear when I explained that the prohibition did not include these weapons [shotguns] in any way and the clarification actually has been provided by the Canadian firearms program utilizing the widely accepted standards and it explicitly states those weapons are not prohibited.”

Any way you cut it, Bill Blair lied to Canadians.

Repeatedly, both inside and outside of Parliament.

We expect politicians to play fast and loose with the truth during press conferences.

We expect politicians to play fast and loose with the truth on social media.

The one thing we do not expect and will not tolerate is government Ministers lying to the Canadian people in the House of Commons.

Minister Blair, you’ve lied enough.

Resign.

Salvage the only shred of dignity and honour still available to you – while you still can.

Resign immediately.

PS: As of the writing, they are currently adding rifles and more shotguns to the lists. More to come so stay tuned.

My referance was to 870,590 pumps, should have made myself clear, shty either way

\ All the odd things about the 870 the safety and slide release. Plus when you load the 870 with gloves on it catches on the shell lifter. Mossberg -Shockwave 100%...........

I agree with this post.
I purchased my first shot gun in the late '70s. A BNIB 870 Wingmaster/30" vented barrel. Great SG! My father sold it a few years after I moved out of the house(foolishly didn't take it with me).
When I got back into SG's (20yrs latter) I bought a 5901A1 20"bbl. Never bought another Remington SG....but thought about it often.

870 for me, I prefer steel receiver but to each his own.. I dont see whats up with the safety I never use them lol, just when loading or unloading so the location doesnt mean anything.

I have gone the other way...

I started with a 590a1 shockwave build that I ran for a couple of years and even used for deer hunting. What I did not like about it is the front bead is much too low, causing the gun to shoot high unless you replace the bead with something much taller. Once this was rectified I kinda liked the gun for a while especially the safety location.

But then I bought an 870 tac 14 marine mag and started playing with it. It shot poi right out of the box, and once I replaced the silly magpul forend with a longer and flat profiled forend, I discovered something very important for me....that I could push the gun further away from my face with my primary had because my support hand was holding onto the forend closer back to the receiver. This made a dramatic improvement to my accuracy on static targets and especially my ability to hit aerial targets.

So this summer I am having a riot with the 870 tac-14s and have sold my mossberg shockwaves....it has re-kindled my desire to do another shotgun hunting video which I’m planning plus training for heavily, and I’m 2/3 of the way through production of another video concept I’ve been thinking about on skills development with these types of shotguns.

Regardless of which one you choose, they can be a lot of fun but will require some practice for you to discover what your limitations are.

Best,

Brobee

Brobee, great youtube video.

With respect to the original post, the 590 is the only real choice. Reasons: 1. If the ejector breaks, replace it yourself. 870 requires a gunsmith. 2. 590 has twin extractors, 870 only one. 3. Ergos of the 590 regarding the controls is superior. Safety on top, true ambi not near the trigger guard. Slide release on the 590 is behind trigger guard, don't have to break your grip to activate it. Don't get me wrong, I have used 870's all my life and because of my muscle memory, I'm stuck using the platform. If your new to both, then the 590 is the only way to go. The biggest plus for the 590 shockwave over the Tac14 is that silly little strap on the fore stock. You don't want your fingers getting anywhere near the end of the barrel. Lots of videos on youtube of careless people losing a thumb or finger because they got to close to the danger end.

Hope this helps.

I just acquired a 14" Shockwave, had a choke tube threaded into it. Now it's my kids' gun for busting clays, works pretty good. It'll also make a really reliable back packer when interior camping. The longer barrel just isn't an option for the kids, even in 20ga.

If I find a 'Retrograde' version of the Nightstick or Shockwave 590, I'll pick one up. Got a 20" Retrograde 590 and it's bloody gorgeous.

A CGN Vendor (Calgary Shooting Center) has them in stock for $719.99. Sounds like somewhat of a high price, IMO, considering the Shockwave with the black synthetic furniture was going for as low as $479.99 on sale from a different CGN Vendor (Bullseye Sports).

Is gorgeous wood furniture worth an extra $240 for what is otherwise the same gun?

...maybe

I prefer Mossbergs for the safety location being a lefty
However I bought a Tac14 this spring and appreciate the ability to easily add a light.
It was also inexpensive and is serving me well.
I had to upgrade the sight with an xs big dot and added a mag extension as well. With a recoil strap added to the rear grip it is very controllable.

No way... especially for that little amount of wood furniture.

For those looking for differences ... I didn’t see mentioned .... the Tac-14 is an easier barrel swap, if you wanted to put on a longer hunting barrel and either one should take a traditional stock.

Agreed the barrel swaps on an 870 is easier if your going from a longer barrel to a shorter 14” when putting together your own clone of one of these guns. Seems like there’s more options for 870 add one like different forends and light mounts etc than for the Mossberg, I could be wrong about that as I don’t own a 500/590.
