9X19...unfortunately, though many of the Mossbergs issues are mag related...the issues you are having are not unheard of.
Go to the Mossberg site...they have instructions on how to send it back to get it fixed.

Right after I posted, I took the mags apart and cleaned them up and lightly oiled them inside. I went shooting on Sunday, 3 out of 4 mags, no more problems.

I ruled out the mags right away because the same thing happened in all 4.
Live and learn....

Thanks for the response. Silly design though. Should have a catch that keeps the bolt carrier locked back while changing mags like in pretty much every other magazine fed firearm.

Not sure if you're still having issues, but these DO have a catch... just pull the charging handle back and then push it in towards the body of the rifle. The bolt will lock back allowing the mag to pull out freely. To charge, pull the handle back again and slightly out then release...
