Mossberg Tactical .22 Flat Tops are here!

Hi Gary

Just bought the Mossy flat top and tried to load the mag with Lapua Rifle Match, I happen to have 5000 on hand.
The best I could do was 11-12 rounds. I applied a bit too much pressure on the loader and broke the magazine follower (the red piece).
Took the mag apart, cleaned it, lubricated it, and epoxyed the red piece.
Same problem, and too much force again, stripped the plastic groove that holds the metal side of the magazine to the plastic bit.
I have plenty of guns, and several 22's, but this one has me feeling like a total idiot.

Could you please help me out here, before I break something else?

Bruno Ottonello

I also have the same problem except that I didnt break the mag. I got 3 of them, 2 loaded like a charm. I cant put more than 10-11 rounds in it. Tried everything from the loader tool to stripping the mag but no results.

Great service Wanstall !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pascalywood
Call Wanstall and talk to Gary.
Instead of sending my mag back to Wanstall, I decided to play gunsmith and broke my mag by applying too much force.
Wanstall had absolutely no reason whatsoever to cover the replacement
of the mag, however, they were understanding and offered to ship me parts at no cost.

As far as I'm concerned, you cannot get better service.
I know where I be buying my next rifle

Yup. all .22 rifles are non restricted and have no mag limits, I shot one last saturday it was a blast. Just don't load more than 10-12 rounds into the mag and don't use subsonic ammo (feeding problems).

i have seen many restricted .22 rifles. go to a gun show and you'll see some too. :)

My suggestion is to get the Ruger SR-22 LR. I was debating between the mossberg and the Ruger, soo I went I my local gun store and as soon as I picked up the mossberg it felt like a toy gun and the plastic hang guard is not comfortable when you hold it. For the extra $150 get the Ruger, I absolutely love it and 3 of my buddies bow have one also. I purchased the gun 3 weeks ago already put 3000 rounds through it an it only jammed 4 times. I would have to say that is pretty good. This is just my opinion but I guarantee you won't regret the decision.

I had troubles loading more than 11 rounds into both my mags. The repair was just so simple guys dont send them back for warrenty. Pull out the 6 screws, split the case half and the little red follower seems to be getting stuck when it goes past the hafway mark in the mag. Simply knock the edge off the flat side along with the corners with a little sand paper and slam it back together.. fixed.. 30 mags loaded not a hickup.

So my Mossy tac. mag is prohibited? Do you guys sell non restricted mags? Can I get this mag pinned? Is this a really big problem taking it to the range. P.S. Mossberg says I have to clean out the barrel before shooting, can I just run a rod down the muzzle or do I have to pull it all apart and clean threw the chamber? Sorry for all the questions but I can only run this rifle at my range. Thanks, bought one first.

These sold out in about 2-3wks after they arrived. They have been sold out since 14 June 2012.

We are expecting more but do not have a firm ETA. We'd like to hope that we get them before August but not 100% sure...

Cheers,
Dan

I had the pleasure of shooting a friend's Mossberg Tactical tonight.
I was not the new flat-top model though. It was the original carry-handle style.

It was a ton of fun to shoot. Hard to beat it for the money he paid.

It took us a while to figure out the best way to change the magazine. But it's not so bad, once you get the hang of it.

When the bolt locks back on empty, it's actually locked back directly on the magazine follower. You need to pull the bolt back just slightly and push it in just slightly to lock it back properly. After that, the magazine comes out nice and easy.

what is epps? and where can i buy one, this rifle seem to be great because they are sold out everywhere i look, and no one is selling a used one, must be a good sign.
