Mossberg Tactical .22

I think I'll stick with my Ruger 10/22 and Armalite AR-15 with Spike's Tactical .22 conversion kit. They seem to built better and have a lot more accessories/aftermarket parts available.

I still think its a good deal think of what you would pay for plastic clothes to turn your 10/22 into the AR look look at what the arch angel kits cost .

handled the one in P&D, it was realllllly cheap, lots of rattle, loose parts, cheap feeling lightweight plastic. Stock was wiggling a good distance, didn't look to see if it could be tightened down. I predict many complaints of broken stuff in the future. Hope I'm not breaking anyone's heart :D

True, although with the Archangel kit you aren't stuck with a carry handle permanently molded into the design, you have the option of running any set of iron sights you'd like (along with many other AR add ons) and aren't forced to use the el-cheapo plastic ones that are again...permanently molded into the design.

...and most importantly, have the option of multiple high capacity magazine designs to choose from and not the crappy (finicky) little 10-rounder the 702 comes with.

Again…I’ve handled this rifle up close. I’ve had the plastic covers off (as shown in the above picture) and seen the quality (or lack of) first hand. Yes, $270 is a great price for any rifle, but you’re reaaaaalllly compromising on this one. I've never shot a standard 702 and from what I hear it's a decent little rifle, but dressing this one up in cheap plastic, renaming it "tactical" and then charging double the price for it should open Mossberg up to false advertising claims if anything.

It’s boxed up in its original packaging and ready for me to send back to Cabela’s tomorrow morning. No more impulse buying for me. :(

Hopefully....you got the bad one?! :p :D

I've got a feeling that they're all "the bad one". ;) I got the charge handle issue freed up. All it needed was a couple of good "whacks" with the palm of my hand against the receiver believe it or not. I decided not to take it down any further than just the plastic shell, since I'd already made my mind up that it was going back anyway and didn't want to give them a reason to reject my return. It's still not really smooth operating though. Not like the internals of the 10/22.

There are also a lot of fine metal filings suspended in the (what I assume is an anti rust) compound around the bolt area of the receiver area itself. I dabbed off a lot of it with a Kleenex that was literally soaked in dark grey metallic matter upon removal. So my advice to anyone that does decide to stick with this rifle would be to strip it down to the bare essentials, clean it thoroughly and treat it to some fresh oil before using it.

I'm just generally dissatisfied with the quality of the rifle itself. Others here may set their standards a little lower than I do, but if I’m going to pay any amount of money at all for something, it’s going to look and work the way I want it to and be built to last. Even if I’ve got to spend a little extra to buy the one that will.

Let’s put it this way. For comparison sake, if my Ruger SR-22 is the mid size family sedan of rifles, then this Mossberg is a stripped down sub-compact that was build on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend. :D

I'm just ribbin' ya Gearbanger!
It's always disappointing to get something new, only to find out it missed the "quality" stage in production.
No offense, but I hope others (including myself) don't have the same problems you encountered?!
If I do, I know mine won't be far behind yours in the "returns" section at Cabelas. ;)

Got to handle one today at The Outdoorsman in Medicine Hat . I like it, its light and handles well
as long as it functions I think its OK for the money I like the carry handle the SR-22 could use one as you have to put crazey high goofy lookin scope mounts on it just to be able to see through a scope cause you can't get your head down far enough. The action feels a little rough but so do the new 10/22's when I get mine I'll take it apart clean it and polish.

I recieved mine today and did not have any issues with anything being loose. The action was a bit stiff so I took it apart and gave it a good wipe and oiling. Seems to have improved a bit. Will take it to the range tonight to see how it shoots.

Just got mine today, first I must start by saying congrats to Cabelas on their shipping got it here in 3 days. My first impressions are for what I paid and what I was expecting I got exactly what I thought I would. 2 things rattle, the stock and the barrel shroud, I suspect I can fix the shroud by simply tightening it up a bit, as for the stock every 6 position stock I have owned has rattled in some way so thats expected.

I mean for being made out of mostly plastic I like the overall look, could be a but heavier but I figure by the time I add a redot and flashlight laser combo it will add a little weight to it for me. The biggest thing I dont like is the fast the mag housing is so short, wish it was a little longer but oh well cant really complain.

I have no problem with the action being stiff or bolt getting stuck or anything like mentioned above, and I dont see any sharp corners or areas that are roughed up. Will have to take it out to the range and give it a test, considering I could get 2 of these for what I paid for my vtr 597 I am very happy with the 300$ I spent on it.

Also to everyone that had problems, we should all take the time to write mossberg and let them know about the problems we are having so they know and they can work to implement fixes to improve this rifle

Good to hear Bigguy and 49er!!!
Enjoy!!

I wish mine would get here!! I got a response on Monday (Oct.18) from Cabelas saying my order was placed but no shipping info or anything else since then??

I'm debating what to do with mine, weather to leave it stock or modify it. Since the carry handle is molded in, I'm leaning toward making it look more like an A1/A2. Here is a mock up of what I'm thinking

I've already got the Butt stock figured out. I have a surplus fiberglass C7 stock on hand, just have to make an extension tube on the lathe. But I'm not sure how i'm going to mount the hand guard or what to do about a front sight post yet.
