Well I got one of these little guns when they came out, I wanted something to look as close to a M4 as possible. Now these are just plastic clam shells like most people know, but with it being so cheap it makes it a great gun to tinker with.

I tore mine down when I got it and this is how it looks now. All I really did was shorten the front hand gaurd to ~m4 lengths, and added a A2 flash hider to the end (visually it hides 1.75" of the barrel thus making it look shorter)

This is how it looks, I'm dying to get the extended mags to complete my el
' cheapo M4 rimfire copy. :)

How I machined the barrel to make is visually shorter without losing any length. Yes I know the flash hider is for looks only, thats the whole point of the gun...

poor picture, threads turned out perfect, even though I've only had the lathe for a month. :)

I agree, that looks great. I'd like to add a flash hider as well. BUT I don't think I'll be tapping my barrel anytime soon.

I read somewhere ( possibly on rim fire central ) that a guy used a flash hider from a 10/22 but turned it upside down or something to hide a screw?? Not sure though..

I'll be adding a T Pod Tactical Bipod Foregrip to mine for sure. I was going to go with an afg2 but changed my mind!

The barrel was machined 1.625" back from the factory crown, with 1/2" of threads, 1/8" thread relief, and 1" reduced dameter section. The factory crown sits back in the A2 flash suppressor ~ 1/8"

Now, that screw on one looks almost as good however... lol that could have saved some time! haha oh-well. :p

That shortened hand-guard looks WAY better than the original.
I have no idea why they made it so long in the first place.

Please post some pics of how you shortened it. Did you need to invent a new way to mount it after you modified it?

That handguard and flash-supressor look great! Please let us know how you did the handguard. Here's mine so far. Cheekpiece, AFG and chinese reflex sight. I am hoping the highcap mags come soon, I expect to hear more about them after the SHOT show.

To be honest, I didn't cut down the hand guard very fancy like ;)

I took some measurements from it, and noticed that the side rails were held on with 3 screws.... I decided if I took a cut after the first screw hole and before the last, removing a section the exact same length as the hole spacing, I could simply cut off one end of the side rail and screw them back on to the new shorter hand guard. I simply epoxied the two center pieces together (mostly internally so it looks nicer)

One thing to pay attention to if you do this, cut so when you put it back together the rail notch's fit up properly. Also, pay attention to the holes in the stock, where I cut I didn’t have to cut threw the holes on either side, so when it was re-assembled it was just flat surfaces. Don't cut the side rails in the middle, remove them and cut off one side or the other so only two screw holes remain.

I used a band saw for straight semi-accurate cuts.

In the picture of your gun this is where I cut; red lines are where I cut the actual hand guard, and the green line is where I cut the removable rails.

I wonder if you could just cut the hand guard off where the fake delta ring is. Find someone to fabricate a mount (Dlask :p ) similar to free float hand guard nut and mount it directly to the barrel with set screws. Then you could get a hand guard of your choice and a new site post and get a look other than plastic.

:p

Looks great guys!

Sorry to thread jack, but obviously you guys have shot this gun. Is it just a plinker or could it be made accurate enough for squirrel hunting? My local shop is trying to get a hold of one for me.

It's easily accurate enough for squirrel hunting IMO. You might want to wait for the NEW Flattop version due out in September/October 2011. Much easier to shoot scoped. I will post a pic as soon as I get one. Hopefully tonight.
