Just picked up a Mossberg Tactical .22 to play around with. Had a chance to do some shooting and here are my thoughts.
Pretty cheap looking finish with the plastic but from a couple of feet way it still looks cool. They basically zipped up a Mossberg Plinkster (702?) in an AR alike shell. The sights are plastic, but the rear ones are adjustable. At a glance I think they can be replaced with good ones but why bother? We are talking about a $270.00 dollar rifle here. Slam a fake ACOG or red dot on it and have some fun with it.
It shoots nice and straight. Good groups out of the box. Easy 1 inch groups at 20 yards with it.
The best part about it was it ate everything I fed it without a single failure to eject or feed. Two failure to fire with winchester xpress. Probably the ammo.
I fed it Winchester Xpress, Federal Champion bulk and Blazer bulk. No problems at all except the 2 failures to fire. On a whim I tried 2 mags of Remington Subsonic and to my astonishment it cycled the rifle with no problems. All in all I burned through 300 rounds and it worked like a charm.
To be honest, I have never had a semi .22 that was this easy with ammo.
The only thing I don't like is the mag release. Most times you have to give the mag a little jiggle to get it to drop out when you thumb down on the lever. The lever feels like its going to snap off but I ejected 30+ times and it continued to work.
Other than that it is a fun little rifle and cheap as dirt. The very best part about it is that it is NON-RESTRICTED.
