mossberg vs savage

the 3-9x40mm rifleman is roughly a $250-300 scope. ive never owned one so i cant tell you more about it, Leupolds carry a lifetime warranty and have a service center in Canada you can mail them to. the big drawback with the Leupold Rifleman's that i hear people generally whine about is the friction dials as opposed to click - ie: when youre turning the dials to zero the scope, they dont 'click' at intervals, its just a smooth turn.

i dont see the big fuss - for the average person who is going to zero their scope and leave it like that it makes no difference, and friction dials can offer finer adjustment.

if you are a newer hand at shooting, you might get some added benefit from the Ballistic Plex on the Burris scopes:

its an aid in helping determine how much to hold over at intervals up to 500 yards.

did they replace the bases/rings too, or just put the new scope in the cheap aluminum rings?

I just did a bit of a read on the Marlin, and it looks like it took alot of its attributes from a savage rifle... Accutrigger, barrelnut, similar bolt, but without the additional gasblock, Steel pillar bedded...
It might just be worth a look...

yes the rings and bases where replaced as well with leupold rings and bases.

well, new they cost:
$289 for the scope
$350ish for the rifle ($300 for a Stevens)
$50 for the bases/rings
__________
$689+ GST and perhaps shipping

so youre saving about $100 (and maybe tax) by buying used. decide if its worth it, or put together your own 'package' with a Stevens or Savage and a scope of your choice. take your time and look into it so you end up making a decision youre happy with, the guns arent going anywhere.
