Has anyone here handled or fired Mossberg's new 464? Now I know I'm going to get the "It's new and unproven, go with a Marlin or Winnie. You'll be much better off", and sure that's true. But I'm not much for the looks of the marlin, and I have a tendency to be a cheap ass.

Read a review in Rifle Shooter magazine. Only complaint was the heavy trigger pull. Gun looked pretty good with the walnut stock. Does what any lever .30-30 should do just not in any spectactular way.

regards, Darryl

Only one I've seen was in a shop. Was interesting till I held it. Forend was loose, butt was loose and slightly crooked. I can handle wood being slightly proud but this one was proud beyond belief. Bluing looked good, metal was decently polished from what I could see. I didn;t even try the action, just handed it back and said no thanks. Very disapointing given that Mossberg does make a decent working mans gun. One would think the shop would have tightened things up if the gun came out of the box that way. Hard to say if it was Mossbergs fault or the shop but no sale that day!!

Ive handled one, it seemed decent - didn't like the tang safety

The safety didn't bother me as much as the feel of the "mystery wood" did. I'll have to re-read their promo literature again because it looked and felt more like "walnut finished" something or other and not a walnut stock. Action seemed nice but the "wood" bits gave it a cheap feel IMO.

Wait until someone posts their groups I guess....

I doubt its walnut for that price. Alot of marlins and winchesters are birch stock or similar wood, FWIW

As has been said, Mossberg makes a decent product at an affordable price. Nothing spectacular for fit and finish, but mechanically sound. With all the Marlins and Winchesters for sale here and elsewhere, find a deal that fits your pocketbook.

I handled one at Stillwater Sports in Ladner, BC. It seemed decent enough for the price. The tang safety was a little weird, but better than the cross-bolt safeties.

I bought an old Trapper instead.:D

Finally got to handle one. Needless to say, I think I'm going to get myself an old 94. It was loose as all hell. I could probably be tightened up, but the action was really gritty and I'm not really fond on it's rebounding hammer.

This is a remake of the short-lived Mossberg lever from the 60's/70's(?) that was quickly edged out by the 94. What with the demise of the Winchester lever, Mossberg had these out at the Shot Show this year, obviously looking to fill the gap the 94 left. I wasn't too impressed with it...but I am not the best one to make an unbiased comment on them.

I've held this rifle and seriously contemplated buying it at 399.00.
I personally felt no issues with the stocks, they seemed tight and the action was decent.
if it was any calibre other than the 30/30, I'd own one. Its just that I dont need another one.

speak of the devil

it came in ,and it is a little loose like Mr. Finicky Timbers said.
