I was wondering, after about 3 years and 5-6000 rounds later my mossburg has finally found its design flaw, the plastic fore end that has metal pins in it. Was shooting some skeet with it and pulled back to eject an empty shell and it got most of the way then bam. Nothing, no resistance, broken. I then remembered after that a bit back i had taken a picture of when it started to crack on my phone (Dec16,2013 about 3000 through it then). Has anyone else on here had that kind of failure, if you google it there are tons after 2008 that have failed in the exact same style. I will try to post the picure of mine on here.

The maverick 88 is well known to have the same problem . there is no tube for the fore end to mount on .action bars are pined directly to the fore grip . and after a while tear free of the plastic .

Or the action bar connection points too

Happened on my Mossy 500 410 pump after a few thousand rounds. The rivets were aluminum and broke, replaced them with steel pins, no more issues.
Why this wasn't done from the factory is beyond me.

I changed mine over to a slide tube assembly before I put one round through it. Pm me if you want to buy a new one piece forend. It's the "field grade" style

Not really a wood vs synthetic debate. More like the idea of having action bars being 'pinned' into the synthetic vs having the action bars welded to a tube onto which the synthetic fore-end slides over.

Hence, you should buy a Mossberg 500 with a wood furniture to ensure that your slide action assembly has the welded action bars. Then swap out for synthetic as you please.

Or just get a Mossberg 590 or 590A1.

The M16 has proven that synthetic 'tupperware' is tough enough. As does the H&K G3 and FN FAL stocks.
